horizons is a super chill game and i don't give a poo poo about cars. it has enough help features that a bad driver like me can still play but you could turn them all off if you're Good

I only use the informational onces like the racing lines and such, anything that actually takes control away from me is real annoying like auto-braking, etc.

I'm really interested in what exactly was going to originally have launched a few weeks from now in terms of Halo Infinite. Like in this alternate timeline journalists already have a review copy of the "Gone Gold" version of the game because it launches on Election Day, as Halo games of the past would often do for some reason.

Would there have even been a complete campaign? Would it have just been like, "Don't worry more story content is coming soon this is only season one! Part one season one!"

This is an incredibly, incredibly minor spoiler but in regards to the game's interface any quest that says "this might take a while" or when Inland Empire says as much, it's a quest that's time-locked to Day 3, which includes finding the badge. It's my one kind of complaint about the game, is wondering "man I just CANNOT find this thing" and then finding it relatively quickly once the second zone opens up

Horizon is the arcadey series yeah. Definitely more in the tradition of the old Need for Speed games than a sim like Gran Turismo.

No power ups or fun things like that, but I think the Horizon games strike a fantastic balance of being accessible and offering thrilling action while still making every vehicle handle different, as well as making you think about how to take approach corner based on how your car handles, the weather, etc. Not for everyone but it's pretty much exactly what I want in a car nerd game.

the way to drive in a car game is full gas at all times, unless its mario kart and then you wanna do that weird eeeeEEEEE thing to get blue jet boost.

I appreciate this! I keep oscillating between picking serious dialogue choices and silly ones just to see what happens. So far it’s been working out but there are times, like when I told my precinct that I had lost my badge, that I lost my nerve and just couldn’t admit that I lost my gun too. Great game, can’t wait to see what day 3 brings.

not quite finished with it yet but my opinion of shadow the hedgehog the game is thus: it's fine!

it's mostly let down by the whole mission structure, i think. making one of four campaigns in heroes revolve around fetch questy missions was fine and a novel change of pace but here, where every level has two or three goal conditions and sometimes simply getting to the end isn't one of them, it just feels like padding. the good old days when having more hours of gameplay was objectively more good. some levels are much better about this than others, but ultimately i don't regret downloading a completed save file so i can just play through the levels freely (and not have to replay the first one at least ten times). you have ally characters for non-neutral missions, who can sometimes be controlled by a second player, which is fun and gives me that character banter i crave, but the majority of the sonic cast is relegated to hero missions. so every single dark mission partners you with either a floating tv screen of eggman or a floating eyeball avatar of the main villain Black Doom, who is so aggressively generic it wraps around into being funny, but neither of them are playable which leaves the whole system feeling pretty undercooked

the guns are hilarious (most of them are at least as big as shadow) and are also fine. i actually really appreciate that, while the fundamental gameplay is very similar to how 3d sonic has worked since adventure, the developers were willing to branch out and incorporate more action elements, because it's y'know, a shadow game instead of a sonic game. basic enemies still have health bars, which is not my favorite mechanic heroes introduced, but weapons are everywhere and can shred through most enemies so the pace of the game doesn't suffer this time. and because there's more combat (and combat is mandatory in some missions), shadow only loses ten rings per hit instead of all of them. shadow also knows kung fu now so you don't really use the homing attack much at all

the story is frankly amazing and the main reason to play the game. despite the edgelord aesthetic, this game happened to come out while sonic x was airing, so shadow the hedgehog gets to be the debut game appearance of the 4kids cast. shout outs to yugi as knuckles and usopp as both sonic and shadow. however all that said, while i liked this game more than i remembered/expected to, i'd still probably rank it as the worst of the 3d games, some of the missions are that much of a drag. maybe if the first level were cryptic castle instead...

ranking of the sonic series (so far [of what i've played]):

sonic adventure 2 battle
sonic the hedgehog 3 & knuckles
sonic advance
sonic adventure dx
sonic 3d blast
sonic shuffle
sonic advance 2
sonic the hedgehog triple trouble
sonic the hedgehog 2 (16-bit)
tails adventure
sonic the hedgehog (8-bit)
sonic heroes
sonic r
sonic advance 3
shadow the edgehog
sonic blast
sonic the hedgehog (16-bit)
sonic chaos
sonic battle
sonic drift 2
sonic drift
sonic spinball
sonic labyrinth
sonic the hedgehog 2 (8-bit)

now if you'll excuse me my eyes are rejecting the word sonic

I said come in!

the more i read of fate/stay night the less i buy the "market realities" excuse for the porn in the original version. this seems like the exact kind of story that teens who love harry potter and battle royale and poo poo would love and i bet it would have done just fine if it had been able to be purchased by/for them. i'm pretty sure someone was just insanely horny

it's both

the market reality was that VNs were for horny anime nerds, but also nasu has some crazy fetishes he wanted to make sure got in rather than just awkwardly grafting on some vanilla stuff like he did in tsukihime

e: also the success of Tsukihime probably meant he could have gotten away with trying to go all-ages in F/SN, perhaps. No way it would have worked if he wasn't already a big name though.

The main thing is that the non-porn, non-MMO PC gaming market in Japan just didn't exist at the time. It's been growing since then but there was only like, one Japanese company I can think of (Falcom) developing normal games for PC.

oh Fate/Stay Night was contemporary with Higurashi, which was already all-ages and a wild success, and Type-Moon was already a big name from Tsukihime

you're absolutely right, Nasu just wanted to make a porn game, he absolutely could have gone all-ages from the start

they famously made a bunch of changes to the original draft when they decided to make it a galge. for one the main character was gonna be a girl which doesnt work for your typical "i'm a faceless boy and im gonna gently caress all these hot girls" game. so it definitely wasn't written first and foremost to be a porn game

I don't think anyone was saying it was that first and foremost, but I mean shirou's not a faceless protagonist anyways.

Higurashi is full of depictions of murder, torture, mental illness, sexual harassment, physical and psychological abuse, often of young girls, with even characters presented as positive or even heroic lusting after them. That alone makes it very much not all-ages, but to top it off the original comiket release actually does feature a relatively short but striking instance of full frontal uncensored nudity(edit: of an underage girl, at that). It's a product that was made by a comiket nerd for comiket nerds with no considerations for any kind of commercial rating and it absolutely shows.
