Timeline
The Mandalorian takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi and the destruction of the second Death Star.

In terms of Star Wars years, Return of the Jedi is set in 4 ABY (after the Battle of Yavin) and The Force Awakens is set in 34 ABY, which means The Mandalorian takes place around 9 ABY. This is a period of time when the New Republic, the democratic government formed by the Rebel Alliance following their victory over the Empire, has only a tenuous hold on the galaxy — especially its lawless outskirts.

Getting error messages trying to play it, it’s getting hammered no doubt. Rest of Disney+ seems unaffected.

Disney+ says there's two seasons, yet the new episode isn't available when I go to the website. The only answer I can make from this is that Disney has made a terrible show and knows it and is trying to hide it from us, because they had characters I already knew in it.

that's a big fukkin pearl. you could make a lightsaber for a rancor with that thing.

episode good. I liked how in spite of the armor being a major plot point, they didn't hit us over the head with WOW THAT IS THE ARMOR OF THE LEGENDARY BOUNTY HUNTAR BOBA FETT.

Also I was expecting Din to give up his claim to the armor and say that Space Bullock earned it through his warrior spirit.

And yeah, love what they're doing with the Tuskens.

Also I had a big ol' grin on my face when they broke the aspect ratio for the Krayt fight

also just the Krayt fight in general

I also liked how they were using big dumb slugthrowers they probably scavenged a thousand years ago, and Mando's disruptor rifle that has hitherto been shown obliterating motherfuckers wholesale barely distracted the stupid thing.

Obviously the stinger at the end is terrific but I love how they're just reintroducing stuff that has existed in other parts of Star Wars into canon. Like the Kyrat Dragon. And the small shot at the end when they show off the pearl. In Star Wars expanded content those are extremely valuable.

Yeah, the whole episode was a nicely expanded version of a quest from KOTOR. I almost expected them to show a half-buried star map inside the cave.

And some other easter eggs:

Anakins podracer parts turned into a swoopbike, the R2 droid the Jawas offer to Cobb is the droid from A New Hope which Uncle Owen chooses before it blows up (notice the damage on the back of the dome) and he selects R2D2.

Sam Witwer (new voice of Darth Maul, Racetrack from BSG) making a background cameo at 13 mins in, pushing the barrels on the trolley as mando enters town.

Mando hits the jetpack, Cobb says it is busted and he didn't break it. Han Solo hit the jetpack in ROTJ and broke it.

Yup. Boba presumably, had the spur sounds as he turned arouned and walked away, so not Rex.

That was the least "Star Wars" Star Wars episode out of the whole series and it was all the better for it. Having dual jetpack action was clearly indulgent but God I love them for it.

I didn't see any damage on there. The droid they tried to sell Owen was an R5, the kind that Peli Motto has that she bitches about being too slow.

Also, I just checked Cobb Vanth's Wookieepedia article. The story of getting Mandalorian armor is completely different from how it's portrayed in the show. Did he lose it and end up with Boba Fett's later, or is the show ignoring the books?

Enter your name pilot!

I mean I dont follow casting spoilers but I was pretty sure once they showed the armor that, the actual Fett would show up at some point. Theres only really 2 ways the Jawas were getting that armor. 1 is going into the Sarlacc and getting it, the other is if it was abandoned outside of the Sarlacc. Great episode all around

Was kind of disappointed with the look of The Kryat Dragon. I've always thought of it as having legs and not just being a sandworm which suits the Sarlacc more.

The R5 unit at the dock had the damage from A New Hope. I don’t recognize the Jawa’s R2, but I really liked the color scheme.

Someone confirm this for me real quick.

We don't know anything about Mandolor in this era. The last we saw of it was during Rebels and all we know of it from that was Clan Wren was anti-emperor and got the Dark Saber from Sabine.

There is nothing else right?

Great episode. They changed the way Vanth got the armor compared to the Aftermath books, but frankly I'm getting too old to worry about EU inconsistencies.

Loved the details: Skippy the Jedi droid R5-D4 complete with damage from when the motivator blew up, the pearl, the podracer engine. I even think they threw a few of Obi-Wan's various Krayt dragon yells into the sound mix, but I'll have to check again, it was pretty subtle.

Absolute favorite bit though: The stiff way Vanth bowed forward when firing the missile at the miners. Definitely a nod to the old never-produced action figure.
