Does anyone know if Freedom’s F&F discount applies to their home Internet? I’d be knocking almost two thirds off of my bill at the cost of going from 150/150 to 150/15. I’m assuming it’s just rebadged Shaw service?

Everyone involved in making freedom's horrible website needs to be dropkicked into a dumpster. Is anyone able to successfully browse their devices menu? I'm trying to do the audacious thing of seeing if they sell iphones with more than the base amount of storage. https://shop.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/devices?planSku=Big%20Gig%20Unlimited%2010GB&postpaid=true

Yeah no; I tried three different desktop browsers, turned off adblocker, and used my phone. That page is hosed. The most it will do is load the page but not the images.

Yeah that's a distinction without a difference if I ever saw one. Though with a website with the disgusting name "mobile syrup" should probably know it.

Any good black friday plans? I am currently on Fido unlimited with 15GB and visual voicemail for $72/mo, but if something better comes up I wouldn't mind moving to telus or whatever.

Best I’ve seen so far is still the $50/20gb from multiple carriers for government employees. Unless something crazy gets announced I’ll probably jump on that. Now if I could only get a halfway decent rate on home internet. It should be criminal the way Shaw/etc are exploiting the pandemic to raise rates.

Telus was going hard on my street trying to sign up folks for internet/tv, but the best they got is just 70mb/s anyway, feh. Dude was ringing my drat doorbell in a pandemic to try to sign me up. Then asking how much I pay currently and I just said nah no thanks.

I guess Canada wide calling (I only got province wide) and visual voicemail would be nice additions. With the referral and loyalty discounts I'm paying $36.16/mth after tax right now which I can't really complain about. Obviously in my dreams I'd want the extras I mentioned for free but realistically I'd be willing to pay a bit more to get them. Not too much though as I would rarely use them.

Yeah, all I really want on my PM unicorn plan is more data so I can stream video on the bus/at the laundromat and not worry about hitting the limit, but the price can't be beat.

Now that Bell owns MTS, does that whole Bell/Telus 100% shared network thing apply?

I noticed that they seemed to get better service at their cabin near Kenora so I switched to Koodo approx 2 years ago. As far as I know Telus/Koodo customers have total access to BellMTS towers and I've never noticed a coverage problem (my work phone is BellMTS).

I'm thinking about buying my girlfriend a new iPhone. She's on Freedom but wants to leave. Does it make sense to buy from Apple or from a carrier? How does buying a phone for someone else even work?

How does buying a phone for someone else even work? Are you planning on buying it outright? Because you can just purchase a phone outright from Apple or from a store like Best Buy Mobile for the full amount with no contract. My wife and I have been buying our phones that way for the last few generations. I think the ones that you DON’T buy from dedicated carriers are unlocked by default.

Buy from Apple, they're never locked (until you use a Robelus sim card, or so I've heard, or maybe that was Samsung. I forget).

This thread's been quiet as heck, so hey, gonna share this link: https://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html Data last updated February 1st and holy crap did a bazillion Telus towers appear since the last update in many areas of greater Vancouver, Victoria, and a bit elsewhere - their 5G deployment is clearly underway. I looked around the GTA a bit and found Rogers does have a few clusters but nothing that remotely compares. Anyone know anything about whether 5G towers are going to be shared differently than the current Bell/Telus alliance?

I’m tempted to try out that Shaw plan just to see how the reception is with my phone. I think if I want to not move a number over there is a $30 fee, so bleh. I’ve also heard I can get Fido to drop my bill considerably if I call in so I might just do that.

I've been on a grandfathered plan off contract for a long time now because I rarely call or text, and am almost always near wifi so I don't really need more than the 500 Megs/mo. (plus an extra gig for $10 should I overuse). But Bell just announced plans to up a few features to the point that I'm now into contract range of $70 which is insane, but seems now is time to look for a new plan. I'm not super happy with Bell firing all the TSN folks but gently caress Rogers. Ideally I want good coverage into the mountains (I'm in Calgary) which Bell was best at back when I last searched. I'm currently on an unlocked Galaxy S7. Where can the best deals be had these days? I'll try the Bell loyalty line as well but honestly they have never offered anything that tempted me off my old ongoing plan so I don't hold out much hope there.
