Latest HJELVIK single was released today with an animated video, this one has Matt Pike on guest vocals and he also plays a guitar solo on it. Was a real treat to watch him record in the studio.

Who wants some death metal?

https://chaos-records.bandcamp.com/album/beheaded - Guillatine is death metal from California who apparently can't spell properly. This is some early 90s USDM stuff.

https://transylvaniantapes.bandcamp.com/album/burning-palace-hollow - Burning Palace are also from California and they call themselves "dissonant death metal" whatever that is supposed to mean.

https://transylvaniantapes.bandcamp.com/album/intrinsic-maleficence-relapse - Intrinsic Maleficence is another band from California. The bandcamp blurb says they're "Influenced heavily by Cannibal Corpse and Demolition Hammer. "

https://wretchedinferno.bandcamp.com/album/fester - Wretched Inferno - These guys are not from California (they're actually from Massachusetts), but they are extremely cool and good and full of riffs.

And finally, some non-death metal.

https://glord-records.bandcamp.com/album/gl-cd008-oxidicide-trashophilia - Oxidicide are from Malaysia and they play really angry thrash metal/hardcore crossover stuff.

I always find them to be cheaply made or of a material that isn’t ideal, so I stick with a plain cork one.

It really does, that deeper, layered vocal style works much better for him, seeing as he can't sing all that well. Everything feels deep and heavy. Very keen to hear more as I have a soft spot for Zombie, but the album isn't out until march!

I was definitely surprised to see this. It sounded like they were pretty much never gonna do anything together again.

It uh, kinda still sounds like that. "Genocidal Humanoidz" is the better of the two by far, but it's still just okay. I still feel like Daron won't let go of the fact that nobody else wants him to be the lead singer. Harmonies, growls, and random interjections are where he belongs. But the band is also kind of his baby, so I guess if he wants to be the lead, he can.

Hi, I unironically listen to Anvil let me tell you about bad vocals. Consequently the newer albums that tend to bury Lips in the mix some are the ones I like better. And perhaps I'll have to give Rob Zombie a chance again when the full album releases as I kinda liked Sinister Urge and Hellbilly Deluxe back in the day.

Hell's Headbangers have some, but right now it's only like 5 bands total.

Loud Trax has mostly big commercial bands, but they've got a Darkthrone and Kreator that look cool.

Indie Merch Store have a couple including an old Metal Blade Records logo:

That's about all I could find that's not international.

I do have a cool Death Atlas mat that I'll have to take a picture of at some point. Most of the time they seem like limited quantity items released to coincide with a new album/product, not a piece of merch that bands stock regularly outside of the biggest ones.

Same as any of his other songs, 15 seconds of a sampled voices, guitar goes thunka thunka and computerized vocals makes a lot of satanic references until suddenly: synth heavy break.

It's fun but you aren't gonna be spinning it again in 10 years.

I found some more Mayhem ones on the Century Media store, but they're also only $10 which makes me wary of the quality:

https://centurymedia.store/search/?storeId=4987&includeArtistSearch=false&searchTerm=slipmat

Deathwish, Inc. the label by one of the Converge guys has a couple:

https://deathwishinc.com/apps/omega-search/?q=slipmat

Season of Mist has a couple including another Mayhem and a Saint Vitus one:

https://shopusa.season-of-mist.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=slipmat

Willowtip have a Defeated Sanity one:

http://www.willowtip.com/store/details/defeated-sanity-disposal-of-the-dead-records-player-slipmat.aspx

Merch Bar has a lot, but mostly bigger rock/pop acts, I did spot a Gojira one:

https://www.merchbar.com/search?q=slipmat&p=3

I didn't include in the last post, but Napalm Records World store has a Dissection one (comes with The Somberlain LP) and a The Sword one, unfortunately neither are on the US store:

https://napalmrecords.com/english/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=slipmat

That exhausts everything I could think of.

He can't/won't put grit into his voice anymore, but he can still sing alright. He just hasn't made more music with System because Daron insists that he's the lead vocalist too and keeps writing music Serj can't sign off on. I'm surprised they did new stuff together now that at least one of them is a Trumper who seems to be in a different place mentally than back in the day. Those two songs are no good, imo, so I'd rather they stop trying to make that happen and just keep doing occasional reunion gigs.

They haven't gotten better since the first album and that fame probably got to Daron's head since Toxicity was such a different album featuring his stupid influences. The s/t was loving heavy and I was so excited to see what they would do.

The demos for the 2nd album leaked out I remember and I was like, hell yeah, this is good. Then it got cleaned up and we ended up with one hell of a appeal to the masses albums at the time. It was so watered down. So weak.

But if you look at the top plays on Spotify, I am clearly not the intended audience anymore.

I really enjoyed their first album, and I liked about half of Toxicity and Steal This Album, but yeah, I don't think they were good by the time they broke up and the individual members' musical output since then gives me the impression that they will never put out anything interesting again.

Pretty much. Self-titled is pretty high-energy, heavy, quirky and awesome, Toxicity was good too, Steal was fine, and Hyp/Mes were overall pretty bad since Daron decided to move himself more center-stage.

Also, it's pretty funny that they are super-left in general with their views, but their drummer is a big-time Trumpist.

I'm one of those strange people who actually think SOAD got better with age.

Yeah they got less heavy, but I think their melodies got way stronger as they got on. However, I know a lot of people never really got into SOAD for that and that's cool. I'll keep blasting Holy Mountains and having a grand time.
