Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

Odyssey basically gave you magic powers by the end. You can teleport assassinate, fire a magic arrow that pierces through walls, summon a god to remote gank your target, and fire spirit bulls at your enemies.

Honestly I put the game down around level 30, maybe 35 or so and I was mostly playing in the Stealth spec. You're right though that there were some fantastical abilities, although the teleport assassinate felt more like "low budget animation" than "actual teleportation" :v:

None of that is as fun as full-fledged mind control and slow-field thingy and foos roh dah sign, though.

My impression so far is that its really solid overall, with a decent amount of content for EA and a very slick system for playing user made maps. I have some small gripes with it, mostly UI and usability feature stuff but nothing that can't be fixed with some time in EA. Its probably the most Doom-like retro shooter I've played, almost to a fault. Between the enemy/weapon/environment design it feels a bit like a de-make of Doom 2016.

I am using a Leopold FC660C, which is a 65% keyboard. This means no numpad, no F keys, directional buttons included. I have Brown Cherry MX keys, which means there's a definite and audible click noise to it and feel to it, but it's not so extreme as Blues. Knowing what you like can be tricky but if you can find a shop nearby that has some models display, you can start with that and see how you like.

I really recommend hitting up the thread though for further questions! Friendly bunch

This reminded me that I kickstarted this and sure enough, turns out I've had access to the alpha since July, I just never saw the email. Whoops!

But yeah it's basically Doom/2 with an impressive spit-polish and includes a fully featured level editor out of the box. Only caveat I'd say is the included campaign so far is about the length of the original shareware episode, and the user level portal uses an online account entirely managed within the game. It does mean you get full access to it even with the GOG release, but brings into question the matter of long-term preservation.

Perhaps the single most unique thing about it to me is whatever they did with the enemy AI for leading projectiles. They not only lead their shots when you're moving, they somehow lead their shots even when you stop moving. No more of the ages-old juking by stopping for a split second before the projectile is launched. It makes it SO much more satisfying to reliably pull it off by other means, and I'd even say more fun to still get blindsided by a shot now and then. I swear they can even tell when you're zig-zagging and will sometimes pop off a shot at the opposite angle you'd expect. Seriously, this should be a new gold standard.

Awesome!

Time for semi-annual Tomb Raider discussion

So I am a big fan of the three new tomb raider games. The second game, Rise of the Tomb Raider is just a better vision of the first game. It has much larger areas to explore, combat and crafting are a lot more fun, and the tombs are a lot more than just physics puzzles most of the time. The story is a lot goofier than the first game but you still get to visit a lot of interesting set pieces so I didn't mind. The Baba Yaga dlc is also a lot of fun and a good story. Also, outside of maybe one or two occasions they removed all of the gore porn deaths that Lara suffers in the first game.

The third game, shadow of the tomb raider, is also good depending on what you enjoyed from tomb raider. It almost completely ditches combat outside of a handful of instances and puts a lot more focus on exploring. One of the hub cities is the size of an entire area from the first game. I thought the puzzles were a lot better in this game and they really went all out designing the tombs. You'll get to visit Mayan basketball courts, a pirate ship right out of the goonies, a death gauntlet right out of a super villain lair, and a tomb in croft manor. The story is, once again, pretty goofy, but is at least a little introspective in why Lara does what she does.

Black flag still has all the terrible hold overs from the old AC games. So when you're not in your pirate ship you're doing a lot of walk stealthily behind this guy for a while and don't get caught, and the mash the counter button as the enemies run up to you one at a time. Both Origins and and Odyssey have ship combat as well and have a better game built around them.

I know I'm the minority but I so rarely even look at the Steam Store page itself unless there's a seasonal sale going on. I only hear about new games if my Steam Friends are playing it. I just launch games from the system tray icon and unless I'm actively going to buy something, I don't really interact with it otherwise.

I'm a sucker for Harmonix and rhythm games in general so I took the plunge and decided to try Fuser, and it's actually a lot of fun! The $60 pricetag ($100 if you want all the launch DLC... which you probably do because there's some good stuff in there :-\) is a lot to ask for, but music licensing ain't cheap. The tools they give you are surprisingly deep, a lot of the stuff I've seen so far of it are from beginners who just put one of every track down and switch them out, which is fine, but there's a lot more control to do some advanced techniques like using muting/solo buttons to your advantage, adding fx to the audio, and even a sequencer that lets you make loops manually in the middle of a set which rules. Doing co-op shows with random people online is so much fun, basically each person gets a minute or two of time to lay out some tracks, and when your time is up it passes it onto the next person who can do whatever they want with it. I had a pretty great set going with 3 other people and a couple other spectators and it feels real good once you figure out all the controls and stuff and can make an awesome sounding mix.

My biggest concern is that unlike Rock Band, there's not much game here. The mixing tools and the tracklist are both great, and the magic they work to make anything mesh relatively well together is seriously sorcery. There's a campaign that is basically a glorified tutorial, you get star ratings and stuff but it's based on fulfilling requests from the crowd so you can kind of game it by adding the thing they ask for and whether or not it's good you'll get the points for it. I think the real meat of this might actually be just going online and doing sets with people or messing around in the freestyle mode which, again, is a lot of fun, but starts to feel more like sequencer/mixer software than a game with that built into it.

I also have no idea how anyone plans on streaming this game, it feels like with how strict Twitch has been with streams playing licensed music this seems like it might be a nightmare to stream, which would definitely suck because I think watching someone who is good at this play the game can easily sell a bunch of people on it.

Dang, I guess licensing fees will really pump the price up as time goes on. Cool to see it’s getting press though, it’s like a gateway drug to making music.

Just FYI, Traktor Pro is about the same price plus then you can use your entire music library. It’ll even sync your library for you. The software for matching tempos and pitches is seriously sorcery. It’s a lot of fun, although there isn’t a multiplayer aspect because well, it’s dj mixing software.

That's been my concern looking at the modes available. Like, aside from the campaign it seems like there should be an endless mode or "play a set mode" that is scored, in the same way you can just do scored sets in Rock Band. But it looks like it's just the campaign, versus, and totally unscored freestyle? I'm kind of hoping some additional mode gets patched in because I liked Dropmix and I like the idea of this game but the modes seem incomplete to me.
