I am having fun. I can't be too specific, but I am supporting a customer that, as a subset of their business, provides ISDN trunks. Other business units of the company uses their ISDN service for incoming calls. There is an issue with calls dropping, so we are having a vendor meet to troubleshoot. We get to a certain point and their ISDN techs flat out said "Well, at this point if you were one of our customers we would be letting you go to figure it out, but since it is internal, let us see what we can do." What they have done so far is take some debugs and say "I don't see a problem" when we are getting a disconnect from their end in an environment with no recent changes that has worked for years.

I can spot the issue there, you're still using ISDN.

I work for an ISP and we're finally dropping ISDN once we drag the few companies left on it into a Voip solution of some sort. ISDN is a pain to support.

But are you really doing ISDN or just SIP to an Adtrans or whatever? The reality is this just goes across the room to a legacy TDM gateway for random reasons. Also I am the business partner, so I will support anything they want me to support. Most of it is pretty bleeding edge, and at times I wish we could just test the line or have a vendor meet with a tech instead of sitting trying to figure out why the SBC is dropping calls.

I have a Damned folder where I keep snippets of really bad code or code that seriously hosed things up. It's fun to look back at something that was written five years ago and wonder how things are still working today.

Fun Shoe
Today's poo poo pissing me off:

:kingsley: : Why are we seeing these requirements in the MRP proposal?! The goods are already ordered!
:) : I did a check and it appears the purchase order was made manually, bypassing the MRP proposal completely. As we've said before making purchase orders manually does not cause requirements to disappear from the MRP proposal. You have to add manual reservations to the PO for the sales order if you want the requirements to disappear (7 screenshots on how to do this), or delete the manual PO and create one from the MRP as per procedure.
:kingsley: : I'm being told the PO was not created manually.
:) : I've run a simulation double-checking both scenario to be sure we don't have an error in the MRP. I see no other way how this could have happened and it's supported by these findings (list of screenshots from PO).
:kingsley: : How do I add manual reservations?
:) : As I explained in my previous email ... (repeat instructions and screenshots)

Not pissing me off, but pissing my co-worker off and hilarious to watch:

We have a time clock that's been having issues. The bigger problem is that it's in the part of the hospital that has the most covid and is all tented off and nobody is supposed to be going in/out of.

So, at the beginning of the day our manager told my co-worker, "Work with Bob on getting this time clock working." Co-worker is WFH so I'm the on--site hands or whatever.

IN THE MIDST OF TROUBLESHOOTING with the timeclock vendor on the line, manager starts disabling/enabling PoE on the network port, to reboot the timeclock. Thanks!

Then a half hour later he sends someone to get pull the clock off the wall and bring it down to IT.

quote:

Additionally, please don’t have anyone remove the clock just yet. Fuse will be looking at the clock with my request, and may install some firmware patches in an effort to fix. This has resolved the issue a few times in the past.
Too late!

quote:

This is being made FAR more complicated than it needs to be, I really wish we had left the unit there for now. In the absolute worst case, we could’ve just removed the fingerprint reader instead of the entire device, but there’s every possibility that they could’ve fixed remotely right now.

If we can’t just get it reconnected, there are steps at http://wiki/index.php/Time_Clocks to configure it for a new location. Just keep in mind that we’ll have do it again once it’s moved back to the floor.

Can't spread it if I've already had it. I'm exempt from our weekly testing now, so why the gently caress do I have to wear a mask?

Super wrong. There have been documented cases of asymptomatic people shedding virus for up to 70 days.

There have been documented cases of people testing negative and then testing positive again after a few weeks.

Finally there have been quite a few verified and studied cases of people catching it again (and every instance has it more severe than the first time.)

Your place of work not testing you is wrong and is borne out of cost savings than actual science and pandemic control.

This isn't a binary "I caught it and I'm impervious now" switch.

Also feet distance guidelines are out of date. Aerosols linger and can travel far.

If you are inside and sharing air with people you don't live with, you wear a loving mask. It doesn't matter if the other person is on the other side of a football sized warehouse. You both wear a loving mask.

For fucks sake. With have 1000+ people dying daily from this and that's going to climb dramatically over the next month due to the infection trend. Community spread is out of control in nearly all 50 states. Cover your loving nose and mouth with a piece of cloth when you are out in public. It's quite literally the least you can do but can have the most impact.

Getting people to wear masks indoors seems like a lost cause, especially at work.

I'm lucky enough I've been able to strongarm my job to work from home but the old people loving hated it, and when we do go in we're allowed to take our masks off if we sit at our desks and put them on if we have to move around (but our team is barely 6 feet from each other, which is why we got to go home) which just seems....not useful

not to mention seeing close family or otherwise.

It's really not. "If you're in the office, you wear a mask" is a very straight-forward ask and something that is easy to enforce.

What do you mean by "seeing close family or otherwise?" What does that have to do with it?

Yeah, I'm tired of hearing the argument that it's impossible to enforce.

No, it isn't. You send the person home and discipline them if they don't. Period.

My COVID story:

My boss and I had to go in to the office together to support a deposition. We also took the time to get some work done on our conference rooms. All told, we were in fairly close proximity for about 6 hours.

Two days later my boss starting getting sick and tested positive for COVID.

On Tuesday I got my test results back and they were negative.

No-one else there that day has tested positive because everyone at the office was wearing masks and keeping appropriate distance where possible.
