My Final Fantasy stories are barely about the games themselves. I borrowed Final Fantasy VII from a friend in middle school but he only gave me the first disk. Then summer vacation happened, and I didn't have anything better to do, so I leveled up to 90ish on disc 1. Then we got back from break, I returned the first disk and was so done with the game at that point I never finished it. Then I got FFVIII for myself, but my computer was such a piece of poo poo, that drawing magic was a tax on the system and it took a good 30 seconds to animate the drawing of magic, so I gave up after finding out about orphans or something because the gameplay was a slog and the story wasn't holding my interest either. Then in college, one of my roommates got FFXII and because there were 3 save slots, he took one, his girlfriend took the second and I split the third with another roommate. We decided that we would only progress story when we were both there, so because of class schedule, we both just ground out license points or whatever and never really progressed in story. So we were silly overleveled and just got to the ocean or something. So my experience with Final Fantasy, at least the 3d iterations of them, is that I play them wrong, then get distracted or bored and never finish them. I guess I did emulate IV, V and, VI and enjoyed playing them and completed them without issue. But I played them well after their release so I feel like it only half counts.
