When COVID started our building management upped the outside air level but the people that come in to the office still wear masks.

I've been in the office twice a week for the last couple of weeks but this week ? Meh, can't see a reason to go in. WFH this week, vacation/holidays next week.

Living the loving dream right here, me and my collection of cool masks. Which I wear out of the house. Bob.

The second most infuriating thing I've encountered going grocery shopping after work is people that think a cloth mask means they can disregard everything else.

DO YOU HEAR THAT? THAT'S THE SOUND OF ME PATTING MYSELF ON THE BACK.

Yeah, and that's going to get worse once the vaccine starts going out. You are going to get people that think they have free reign to disregard everything from the moment they get their first jab when masks and social distancing is going to have to continue with EVERYONE until case counts fall off.

I'm just sad how people aren't generally educated enough to realize what the actual risk factors are.

I've been taking martial arts classes online via zoom since this started since I'm not going to do in person classes right now. I see so many people going to class as normal and like maybe 1 out of 10 wears a mask. The instructor offered 1:1 classes to anyone doing remote if they wanted to work on something specific with the promise of masks and keeping distance during the 1:1 effort. But I'm looking at the space (small studio) and the HVAC system which appears to be closed loop intake on one wall and then exhaust via ducts throughout the place and it just doesn't add up to me. Unless the HVAC system is using MERV 13 or higher filters (which I doubt) or it's bringing in a ton of outside air (which I also doubt), there's no way I would want to be in that space even 1:1 with someone knowing that 20 minutes prior there was 15 people breathing heavily.

Not to mention the fact that the instructor would be the common vector of everyone that passed through the space.

Circulating air through a mini split and running it through a dust filter isn't doing poo poo to a virus. I assume most HVAC systems that are meant to replace air aren't set up properly either. Wear a mask.

around 15% of our total faculty, staff, and student body are on quarantine today. that's 132 people. they just announced that we are doing distance learning the week after thanksgiving, but what this means for employees whose kids go to school here, like mine, is unclear. wear a mask

I won't even loving empty quote this. I have to go into my office a few times a week and I wear my mask literally the entire time. Im so loving sick of dipshits who dont seem to understand that AC cycles the virus around. My companies policy is that you can "take off your mask if you think you're alone" but that's also loving stupid. I've been ambushed by multiple people rolling up into my space wearing no mask. I had a facilities guy roll up into the server room and tap me on the shoulder with his mask below his nose. gently caress that guy. Also gently caress the other facilities guy who threw open a door at me and was like "omg I didnt think anyone was here!" wearing no mask.
We also have a check into spaces form for contact tracing and capacity checking that the same dipshits never fill out.

That pisses me off.

There should be no exceptions or weird caveats to an employers mandate for mask wearing.

“Wear your mask at all times except sometimes.” will be internalized by the common jackass as “eh, wear it or not, we don’t care.”

Down here in shithole commie socialist New Zealand, we went through four weeks of total lockdown, three weeks at the next highest level, then got back to a semblance of normalcy before removing all restrictions.

It only worked because everyone, everyone*, followed the rules regarding masks and washing your hands and social distancing. And we knew that as long as we knuckled down and got through it, we'd come out all right on the other side. As we did.

But this wouldn't work in the US because ~~~***exceptional circumstances***~~~ and because of "heh what do them scientists know, all their learnin's from books" jackasses like Bob.

* One cabinet minister was caught flouting the rules and got sacked. Also his name was mud afterwards so it worked out.

Im technically high risk i think since i've had pneumonia twice and my lungs just fuckin suck on the best day. The only reason I ever go in is to quickly go touch hardware and get out and I even check that stupid loving building spreadsheet to verify "hey no one is supposed to be here in this time window" before I go to the office but inevitably some stupid gently caress doesnt fill it out.

Then I fill out the stupid loving form to complain to HR that people aren't following protocols and then HR loving calls me after like the 8th one of these and says "oh why don't you just ask them to fill out the form/ put on their mask" NO. NO I WONT. IM NOT THEIR loving MOTHERs. IM NOT THEIR MANAGERS. THATS YOUR loving JOB.

Just wear the fucking mask, Bob

I don't care how many people I probably infected with COVID-19 while refusing to wear a mask, my comfort is far more important than the health and safety of everyone around me!

quote:

I would like a daily/weekly report with some of the following information… This information would be used by IT for security reporting and Managers for productivity reasons.

Who logged in yesterday
What time they logged in (if multiple times report all)
What time they logged out (if multiple times report all)
How long were they connected in total for the day

Food for thought – For those staff that are RDP can we send syslog info on those devices to show RDP login, lock screen, unlock ?

Has morphed into:

quote:

Can it show daily – connect at 7am, disconnect at 430?

Our rule is mask off on campus either a) outdoors or b) in your office or other room with door closed. Company phones use Bluetooth for contact tracing. We can get away with the "mask off in office" policy because our HVAC filters are rated for viruses - one wing of my building is all virology labs complete with negative pressure system and an oversized emergency generator.

But gently caress that, SF Health Department sent alerts yesterday. I'm staying home until necessary. With masks for checking the mail. Bob.

Our policy is use a mask everywhere but in your office at your desk. You dont have to use one while outside on campus if you dont expect to be near other people but you are basically expected to be around other people 99% of the time while around central area so use the mask anyways. Also no mask required while exercising, and cadets/soldiers will always be running around regardless of the time of day so use a mask anyways.

also a side effect of the ventilation system in our building working overtime is that its loving cold in here. Its like in the 50s now in the office.

To be fair most employees in America are so Stockholm syndrome'd by bad employer practices that they take the bare minimum that a company should be doing (f.e. 'allowing' carryover) as a bonus instead of seeing the reality that allowing carryover is simply not being actively lovely and something we should all expect.

The company I work for is not doing this. It's use it or lose it, unless local law (CA) prevents such an arrangement. I've only got 2 weeks of work left this year at this point since I'm taking a ton of PTO off before the end of the year. I'm not in operations though, so I can disappear for a few weeks and its no big deal.

We used to have 40hr rollover as long as it was used by April 1st. They just recently switched it to a 200hr max cap according to your accrual (>5yrs gets more pto), their reasoning being that they want to “encourage people to use their time.”

DelphiAegis
Jun 21, 2010
My company gives 120 hrs each year, with up to 40 carryover. The first question asked in March was "will we be allowed to carry over extra pto time into 2021" since we've not had a real slowdown due to COVID as we'd normally have any other year.

The answer was a resounding and firm no from c-level under the guise of "encouraging" us to take time off, but the real reason was to not have the pto debt on the books in case they need to lay us off.... Since we recently announced we were acquired.

American companies are scum, never trust them beyond what is written. gently caress, even then they'll find a way to gently caress you if you don't gently caress them first.

drat, I just checked and we can have up to 480 hours in our PDO bank. I've taken almost 5 weeks off this year and still have 4 weeks banked with 2 more weeks off coming up here before the end of the year. I'm at an 11% accrual rate so I basically get 8.8 hours of PDO every paycheck.

I don't have the time to take PTO and I can't cash it out to $ at hourly rate. I'm almost certainly working all holidays. To be honest, I like my team, and I took that oncall first-page because they have things like kids to take care of, I just have League of Legends to take care of.

I entirely plan on going snowboarding with expensed hotspots from different carriers on Christmas. If the lifts are too crowded, I'll probably just snowshoe instead.

Just like the time I went to a multi-day music festival with a laptop and five hotspots while on-call. Why is it so noisy at 3 AM when I got paged? It's a screaming shirtless dude on acid eating cheese fries while someone is blasting Tiesto two tents down on a speaker system connected to a generator.

My current $job gives 2 weeks accrued over the year BUT if you miss work for any reason, they use your PTO to get you to 40 hours\week. :psyduck: Oh, and they also want you to take a week off every year due to financial regulations. I found out it's optional actually but mine enforces it.
