I can't believe that Zack Snyder is putting out something that looks total garbage, something that pretty much everything his hand touches also looks like.

It just doesnt feel realistic. The things that guy has done, the fact Alfred said he's their most powerful warrior, I dont care what religion he has any realistic depiction of power dynamics and especially the mafia like push and pull of power and obligation/reward in the medieval era demands a monarch load him up with treasure and honors in the faint hope that he doesnt defect or kill you. The type of absolute monarch a lot of ppl are familiar with didn't really exist in the West afaik until the Bourbon Kings. Before then its just the most powerful dude around making sure he doesnt piss of the second most powerful dude around. Its all in the service of drama, and fairly thin drama as well.

I mean, I doubt they had as many scruples as we do, in the 7th century or whatever, but those kinds of power dynamics existed throughout the Roman empire, including in the ERE during that time period, right? So I don't really think it's anachronistic: just more poetic license.

In terms of the 2 industry series on Showtime, are either of House of Lies or Billions worth watching?

Open Source Idiom posted:Billions, mostly yes, House Of Lies mostly no. e: Industry had technical issues too. I don’t really care about any of the characters, especially the main one, but I care even less about Don Cheadle getting his dick wet in House of Lies, though the cast seems more manageable there. Since Industry is a new show, it looks like I’ll try to binge Billions and maybe watch Industry when new eps come out every week when I’m bored. You're vastly underestimating the influence of the Christian religion on society at that time. The amount of insane poo poo Alfred would get from the other ealdormen much less the Church itself would completely negate any benefit from showering Uthred with favor. This is not a time when something like "tolerance" is even remotely considered an option the fact that Uhtred is widely known as a heathen it's amazing he doesn't get put to death after his first criminal offense. For Alfred, Uthred is an amazingly capable warrior and commander who has proven himself time and time again. For Uthred, Alfred is literally his only option for ever seeing his birthright recovered in his lifetime and has treated him well for the most part.

Its full on apologia. Uhh are we watching the same show? Thatcher's been depicted as a hypocritical misogynist. I'm not quite finished but the Fagan and Apartheid episodes were damning. In fact everybody this season has been depicted as villainous except for Diana and maybe Margaret.
