Uhh are we watching the same show? Thatcher's been depicted as a hypocritical misogynist. I'm not quite finished but the Fagan and Apartheid episodes were damning. In fact everybody this season has been depicted as villainous except for Diana and maybe Margaret.

Yeah, The Crown's portrayal of Thatcher is not favorable at all, and I'm not sure how anyone could come away from it thinking that she was depicted as a good person.

I’ve been leaving MadTV on at night partly just for white noise and partly because I just want it out of my watch list and holy loving poo poo do the skits get really racist and homophobic during the Bush years. And obviously that’s an issue with a lot of early 00s comedy and MadTV itself was never an angel on that front, but still :stare:. The only positive thing about these later seasons is Jordan Peele.

I am so glad my childhood nostalgia for the show is limited to the very early Phil Lamarr-Will Sasso seasons.

I like The Good Lord Bird a lot. All anyone talks about is Hawke's performance (because it's fantastic) but the overall tone of the show is a perfect blend of humor and drama with great pacing and characters. It's got a relaxed vibe to it that hits me real good.

I am bummed that it is over. Hawke was amazing in it, but the kid that played Onion killed that role. I'd be very surprised if he's not in a ton of poo poo in the near future.

I've been watching Yellowstone. I both like and dislike the show.
I like all of the stuff with the ranch hands (the old grizzled guy is awesome) and Kevin Costner is great in it. The major dislike is the interaction between Wes Bentley and Kelly Reilly. She's almost too cartoonishly evil (especially to him) and while I get what they are trying to do with his character he's not written well.

I'm in season 2, so mild spoilers, but I think the literal next day after she stabs him in the leg with a steak knife at dinner just to be an rear end in a top hat, he comes running to her for help because of another fuckup. I get the fuckup part, I get her being a poo poo to him part, the part that strains belief is the part where he goes to her for help, especially when she's betrayed him multiple times this season.

While I think The Goldbergs has probably come to a creative end (it's really just the same 3 or so plots revolved around with different pop culture references now), I must admit they still get me with the 'oh by the way the real person from my past was playing this character in the show this week'. I need some help TV Goons. I am spending a lot of time with my parents and need some show recommendations. The biggest hang up is my step dad, as he likes very very few comedies. We just finished Ted Lasso, which how could anyone not like. Since he usually watches police/detective/spy procedurals, I thought we would try Patriot, but after 3 episodes it just doesn't grab him (he says its slow, and I plan to finish it myself later). Shows he has seen and liked: Homeland, The Americans, Blue Bloods (is over 70, so a given), the various NCIS's and CSI's, Bones, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Bosch, Billions, Goliath, Suits, Barry (which surprised me but was happy to watch it with them!) etc. Any other shows along those lines would be greatly appreciated. Also, despite never liking anything sci fi, he actually loves The Mandolorian (although it may be literally the only Star Wars material he has ever seen) and he liked the Expanse.

I'm the resident Yellowstone watcher on SA. The Wes Bentley character is my least favourite on the show too. I'm not saying your criticisms aren't valid (I can't recall the specific gently caress up you're referring to), but there are two major revelations in the third season that may provide some further context to their individual behaviour and the relationship with each other.

But yeah, the ranch/cowboy stuff is incredible. The scenery, wildlife and sick horse skills are endlessly watchable. Have you seen the Jimmy storyline with the Horse Sliding bets (complete with Taylor Sheridan cameo) and his rodeo journey yet? So much fun.

Another thing I like is the whole juxtaposition of what could be the old classic Wild West with the ultra-modern ranch helicopters, casino and resort developers.

I also really like the whole plight of the Native American and their relationship with the White Man stuff. Considering the content of all his other properties, it's clearly a subject Sheridan likes to explore as well. Are you watching Fargo? It took me two episodes to realise Swanee Capps was Monica Dutton.

EDIT: Wow, I just saw the ratings listed on Wikipedia. I knew the show was popular in the first couple of seasons but Season 3 was pulling 5million viewers an episode! That's (current) The Walking Dead numbers!

The fuckup I was referring to was the interview.
It’s odd they will write him to be competent and then have him be a complete fuckup who blindly trusts his evil sister. I don’t get it. Also her insults are creepily sexual.

I literally just watched the horse sliding contest. Jimmy is one of the definite high points of the show, I love the interaction between him and the grizzled dude.

Also holy poo poo I didn’t realize they were the same actress. I knew she looked familiar but I never looked her up. Apparently she got some poo poo a while ago because she was pretending to be a Native American and that didn’t sit well.

I just read into this as well. I'm using the wrong terms here, but she basically applied/claimed to have the native heritage and they "declined" her application because there was no record but then it turns out she actually does but the Natives still cracked the shits with her because she didn't grow up on the Res and didn't "live the life" but rather, just ticked the box when it suited her. But yes, she is part Cherokee (her grandmother was half Cherokee). And considering her last 3 or 4 roles have been playing Native Americans, she'd drat well want to be.

Minor spoilers. They both hook up with two cowgirls/barrel racers in Season 3 so their relationship gets even more hilarious/awesome. I don't know whether it's the cowgirl thing or that they are just factually gorgeous, but holy poo poo, they are stunning.
