Speaking of blaster chat: I like to collage blaster designs in photoshop out of old random guns/airguns/etc. and I'm curious if any specific ones stick out as good candidates for translation to 3d models/physical props in your opinion. I use a lot of these also as potential items for swd&d campaigns as well.

I've been really strongly considering some kind of original character (some kind of bounty hunter/smuggler/scoundrel) for cosplay once cons happen again after covid.

Whatever that pistol in left center is, with the barrel rings and the scope, I think I'm going to steal it. Possibly in some kind of space heist.

Why would he want to resist that? She was pretty damned awesome.

Aside from which, it was probably Dave Filoni's idea since Katee voiced the character in his Clone Wars and Rebels shows.

Showdown in the Galaxy Era.

Yeah, Katee Sackhoff has some pretty rock-solid sci-fi genre credentials, and is right for this part in addition to already having voiced the character.

She's probably one of the least gratuitous casting choices on this show.

Do the Mandalorians have an equivalent to the Helots? I don't know enough about the extended universe.

In KOTOR times yes: one of the optional party members you can get in KOTOR 2 is an ex-Mandalorian slave and she explains that during the war if you were found or captured by the Mandalorians they enslaved you and essentially made you logistical support for the war. The party member in question is an expert at demolitions, tracking, and ambush, which she explains by saying her slave job was to haul munitions for advanced scout squads in the field, so she had to get good at explosives fast not to blow herself up and got to witness a lot of covert ops. The main difference from historical helots is that there was a soft way out of slavery: live long enough and get good enough at fighting that you stop getting treated as a slave and instead are treated as a fellow Mandalorian warrior, because Mandalorians acknowledge battle prowess from any source, even external to their race.

I haven't watched Rebels or Clone Wars so I'm not sure if that's still a thing come the era of this show. Din definitely wasn't enslaved and was instead brought into the clan, although he got adopted by a weird fundy sect that probably figured it could use any more members it could get it's hands on.

Why don't you perform zazen, facing a wall?
Mandos pretty much did the same thing by Din and Mira, they abducted a kid in a war zone and raised it to kill. Mira turned out less religious, but about the same amount of crazy.

I feel like she and her two cohorts styled on Din the entire time and made him look like a dumbass and then his big hero moment was a full on LEEEEEROY JENKINS! which is actually pretty funny but didn’t leave Din looking particularly skilled. The episode left me with a very large “ha ha we trained you wrong... as a joke!” vibes.

I mean, his big hero moment was LEEEROY JENKINS because that's literally the only thing that had a chance of working in the timeframe they were operating on.

Vanity Fair did a piece on the Gina Carano mess. There's also this interesting tidbit regarding the transphobia/assault case that had folks' hackles up over Rosario Dawson:

quote:

But there has been a quiet development in the case that hasn't gotten any of the attention of the original charge.

In August, plaintiff Dedrek Finley voluntarily withdrew 18 of the 20 accusations against Dawson and her family, according to court documents. His attorney verified to Vanity Fair that the dropped claims included the accusations of misgendering and discrimination. There was no settlement, and that lawyer has since left the case. The final two claims, involving an alleged physical altercation between Finley and Dawson’s mother at the property where they had invited Finley to reside, is still pending, according to court documents. A Los Angeles County Superior Court will decide next month whether to dismiss those as well or if there is enough evidence to move forward with the case.

Obviously doesn't 100% clear Dawson of this stuff, but...

Resistance talk from a few pages ago, I think the issue was that they had two ideas, spy and racing, and decided to do one show. They should have dropped the spy aspect and just have the Colossus be attempting to be neutral, but the aggression of the First Order forces them to join the Resistance. Kaz could have been kicked out of the NR Military because he preventing the FO from killing for capturing a ship, and that causes a diplomatic incident and because the New Republic is all about :decorum: and don't want to make the FO angry. Poe recruits the now discharged Kaz and sends him to the Colossus to help with Yeger and Dolza try to fend off the FO's advances. Kaz is less of a goof but more of a spoiled brat hot shot pilot who outside of the cockpit is too full of himself to think about what he's doing. Tam is less upset that she's being lied to, and more someone who grew up thinking the Empire wasn't so bad.

Also the Colossus should have lifted off by the half way point though season 1 and season 2 should have been more about fighting against the FO as an actual Resistance force. There was too much filler BS and pointless goofy adventures.

It really seems to me that a "Moff" who's dick-waving show of force was landing in 1 (one) TIE/ln fighter, without escort probably can't afford to lose too many Gozantis full of laser guns.

The way they've thusfar set up his sad little filthy slice of the Remnant holdouts proportional to the Empire at it's height, nabbing that freighter may as well be destroying the Death Star, only Bo-Katan gets to keep it.

I'm curious at the timeline for the Aftermath books. Like Rey Slone was still around for a few years before going off to the Unknown Regions and beginning the First Order, so is it possible Gideon is working for her?

I haven't read those books so I don't know much about who that is, but my take would be that Gideon might be working with her at best. He's working for himself. Figure he's spent decades dreaming about being the Emperor. Now that he's getting to sort of do that, he's running with it.

Honestly figure there's a bunch of Moffs and former high officials doing the same thing in other places.
