So it's the first of the stupid end of the year American holidays, and hopefully, like me, you are alone or with immediate family and not planning on going out and trying to kill other people with disease. I'm starting the process of making a dinner that could probably feed about 8 people, and one that I am unfortunately going to have to eat by myself. What is everyone else doing today?

...h...how many other 'end of year American' holidays are there, specifically that this is the first of? Anyway I'll be roasting a duck (doing a quick brine of said duck and then an eventual brown sugar and citrus glaze to finish it), with brussells sprouts and potatoes as sides while watching football most of the day

Just me and the folks (that I've been around enough getting groceries etc to not be a risk hopefully) this year. My brother is in Berlin, but I'm sure he'll probably have some sort of special meal with his gf. I'm trying a new dry rub and glaze on my bird this year. Having a butcher shop part out your turkey into whole breast, leg, and wings is the way do go. Happy gobble day you jive rear end turkeys.

I'm cooking a whole turkey for my dogs and cats because my spouse isn't here, might have been here, and I'm a vegetarian so gently caress it. No one wanted it. Time to spoil some very good livestock guardian dogs who work their asses off for me and their flock. oh and I guess I'm giving literally every other farm animal some treats, too. Mostly I'm thumbing through ads and trying to decide if I want to risk my life going out and staring at the crazy that'll go on tomorrow morning. Answer is probably so, I mean, no one wears masks at the grocery store at this point anyhow.

My girlfriend and I are spending our first Thanksgiving together after living together for like three years, we couldn't get a turkey so we found some turkey wings I'm going to cook up! She's vegetarian and more excited about mashed potatoes and stuffing and actually being together for the first time for the holidays, it is wholesome as gently caress I didn't grow up in the States so I'm hazarding my best guess here: Turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, pie? Maybe like a sweet potato marshmallow thing? Am I missing any classics?

unless you are feeding a big crowd either turkey breasts or simply a chicken are the way to go. full size turkeys are expensive and way more of a hassle to deal with so why bother if most of it is going to waste?

Went to the grocery last weekend to pick up a couple things and there was literally only five hugemungous birds left in the freezer case. You just need gravy, although I'm at a loss as to how you make vegetarian giblet gravy. We're having a small ham, teenage mutant giant turkey, cornbread dressing, zucchini squash casserole, mashed potatoes for the one who doesn't like dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Votes for dessert came down to my peanut butter instant cheesecake and banana pudding. I may take a plate to two people I know are alone today.

After that we値l be bunkering at home the rest of the weekend watching infection rates skyrocket because Americans can稚 just NOT go out on Black Friday.

I'm not American but if you guys can adopt St. Patrick's Day as a holiday I think we should return the favour and adopt Thanksgiving. Today I'll be wearing my comically large Pilgrim Hat and beard, along with a stars 'n stripes t-shirt that reads "Don't kiss me! I'm Puritan". Later we'll be having some traditional American dishes, such as poutine and Kraft dinner, washed down by some red and blue-dyed bottles of Bud Lite. I really do wish we had a Thanksgiving equivalent though. Christmas but just the food and without all the commercialism sounds like a great holiday.
