Inauguration Day in the US is on January 20th, 2021. By the end of that day, Donald Trump will no longer be President of the United States.

The purpose of this thread is to watch as he continues to flail against this reality and, perhaps, slowly come to terms with his defeat. Post here about how this reality becoming yet more inevitable than it already is and how the soon-to-be former President reacts.

I thought it might be fun to frame this in terms of the Kübler-Ross model, aka the Five Stages of Grief. Rather than paraphrase, here's what the wiki says on the topic:

quote:

Kübler-Ross originally developed stages to describe the process patients with terminal illness go through as they come to terms with their own deaths; it was later applied to grieving friends and family as well, who seemed to undergo a similar process.[9] The stages, popularly known by the acronym DABDA, include:[10]

Denial – The first reaction is denial. In this stage, individuals believe the diagnosis is somehow mistaken, and cling to a false, preferable reality.
Anger – When the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at proximate individuals. Certain psychological responses of a person undergoing this phase would be: "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; "Who is to blame?"; "Why would this happen?".
Bargaining – The third stage involves the hope that the individual can avoid a cause of grief. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek compromise. Examples include the terminally ill person who "negotiates with God" to attend a daughter's wedding, an attempt to bargain for more time to live in exchange for a reformed lifestyle or a phrase such as "If I could trade their life for mine".
Depression – "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; "I'm going to die soon, so what's the point?"; "I miss my loved one; why go on?"
During the fourth stage, the individual despairs at the recognition of their mortality. In this state, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time mournful and sullen.
Acceptance – "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it; I may as well prepare for it."
In this last stage, individuals embrace mortality or inevitable future, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. People dying may precede the survivors in this state, which typically comes with a calm, retrospective view for the individual, and a stable condition of emotions.
You'll note that this is framed in terms of coming to terms with dying. In Trump's worldview, losing this election is probably about the same. In either case, people apply it casually to other forms of loss, and I don't mean to use this as a scientific means of understanding what's going on (the science behind it is pretty weak anyway).

So, where is Trump at the time of this OP? I think he's still in denial:

I think he is probably going to sulk for the next couple years. I remember making a post in USPOL about my sulking projection (as opposed to The Atlantic's fearmongering "off the walls competent GOP suddenly"). His sulking is funny because he's a loser who sucks, op.

Yeah, he may at some point progress beyond Denial, but he will never, ever, ever reach Acceptance. We've seen that his mind simply cannot work that way.

Inevitable things become more inevitable when allies break away from the narrative of denial. For example, CNN reported that in the days after the election members of the Trump clan urged Donald to concede. Among Trump's allies in the press are OANN and Newsmax. Newsmax today called Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Nevada for Biden:

already posted this but this is the full thing. i suspect we are gonna be at the anger stage until he realizes that army group Steiner i Rudy isnt gonna stop the electors from declaring biden the winner in December. than he will either keep doing the same impotent poo poo with more sulking OR some purges in various departments. to sound a little covok. i do worry he might try to strike Iran or some poo poo but the pentagon will tell him to screw.

I don't think Trump will ever make it past the first stage, because that would imply some modicum of personal growth.

Funny thing about this theory. The stages have been shown to not occur in any particular order; in fact it is technically possible to be in all five stages at once. If you see something out of order, it's probably happening!

i think its a mix of denial/anger and will be past the 14th. i have seen other goons say that if he actually wanted to try to stop this, than he would try. but its clear the dudes always been a dumb petty rear end in a top hat think thinks the world will bend the knee hard. i think he does know he lost and i think he will try to damage poo poo between the 14th and 20th but the goverment won't do poo poo to help him. also his insanity is breaking his bases brain more.https://twitter.com/ryanobles/status/1332719431148036097

Again a very likpatous story
He did talk about the "Biden administration" today so he has actually managed to reach acceptance.

But only acceptance that he will not be president after January 20th. He has not accepted that he lost, and never will.
