That reminds me.. a chinese lady at work & her husband bought some chickens with the intention of raising them & eating them.
The chickens ended up dying of old age & her husband prays over the graves, she was laughing her arse off telling me about it.

Either you post me a couple or failing that.. can you post the recipe?
Copying from the recipe site I used (so you don't have to read a thousand paragraphs about how this food changed their lives

quote:

1 cup Moroccan red lentils

1-1/2 cups water

4 cups baby spinach leaves

1 clove of garlic , minced

1 cup panko crumbs

1 large egg , beaten

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup vegetable oil , for frying

Place soup mix or lentils in a saucepan; add water and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to a simmer and cover the saucepan with a lid; continue to cook for 10 minutes.
Remove lid and stir in spinach leaves and garlic; continue to cook and stir for 1 minute, or until spinach is wilted.
Remove from heat, stir in panko crumbs and let stand a few minutes, or until cool enough to handle.
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Put egg and flour in individual bowls.
Form the lentil mixture into 2-inch patties; dip the patties in the egg, coating both sides, and then coat the patties with the flour.
Working in batches, add fritters to skillet, flattening slightly; cook until golden and crisp, about 3 minutes per side

We swapped the egg for a flaxseed 'egg' and added some curry spices and a tiny bit of sweet potato. Halfed the flour, and added half gram flour as well.

It was good.

Are ducks easy enough to keep? Like, on a scale of chickens to goats?

We had chickens before, in fact we still have one left. Ducks are a bit messier in terms of trashing the ground and sometimes they refuse to come of the pond and go to bed. They are less pointy and generally easier to catch if you need to. They are also much stupider than chickens.

NotJustANumber99 posted:

We have a pond like area in the bottom corner of our field. They just need some water to act like dicks on.

I've had limited experience with both, chickens can be really good fun & have personalities.

Ducks just like to gently caress things up & bloody love eating snails.

Can confirm, ducks are stupider than chickens. My parents chickens will put themselves to bed whereas the ducks will piss about in the garden when it gets dark and get eaten by a fox if you don't chase them into their hutch.

Indian runner ducks don't need a huge amount of water to go in but very much enjoy it. They also look ridiculous when running about.

Aren't duck eggs kind of small? On the other hand duck is a lot tastier than chicken. Do you eat them at the end?

I think it must depend on the chicken. We had hybrids which were all pretty smart. The pure breeds we had were bantams and they were stupid other than the sabelpoots.

I basically should have just posted this. Snail eating and loving around on the pond whilst the foxes are out is duck modus operandi.

Ours are bigger than the average chicken egg although our ducks are pretty big so I think it depends. Never eaten one because the chickens either got taken by foxes or buzzards, die of something horrible like Marek's or get old and scraggly. We've not lost a duck yet which is amazing given how slow and unaware they are.

While a grain platform can be used for corn, a specialized corn head is ordinarily used instead.

I'm using a magic neck collar on the rooster I'm keeping. Unfortunately one of the others is also a rooster, he's getting a neck collar when it turns up but the boys are starting to square up and it's only a matter of time before one kills the other.
Also wife won't let me off him and turn him into Sunday lunch.

I floated the idea of getting a turkey in the spring to fatten for Christmas 2021. From the response I got, we may end up with a pet turkey that def won't be getting eaten next Christmas.

Duck eggs are bigger than chicken eggs, with a huge, creamy yolk. They're great for ham, egg and chips, because they will cover a giant slab of gammon with ease. The downside is that they seem to go off pretty easily, and they're either fine when you crack them or the white will have gone green as poo poo, so you always need to crack them into a bowl first.

Had a phonecall from the hospital yesterday because I am still losing blood from somewhere and they're gonna put a camera up inside of me to see where it is coming from. I think I will choose to have sedation this time.

Been off the booze for a couple of weeks again now so atleast that is something positive. I haven't got much to do today tho except watch the gp, what have you lot got planned?
