CDs cost 50 cents to make, the artist got a buck and Record Companies got 10 which made it real easy to justify stealing "a song". The whole thing was still a scam in some ways but it was probably better than now where everyone can self record at home and self publish and make no money.

Stumbled across this article about Soul which has a few brief, but informative quotes from everyone involved with the score. https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/soul-how-nine-inch-nails-scored-pixar-movie/ The main new piece of information is that even though the score started off being pretty segmented, with Jon Batiste doing the jazz bits and Reznor/Ross doing the more "score" stuff, eventually they started to really collaborate. In other words, we're getting more NINjazz.

It seems like it would be, but in some interviews with him and Atticus, I seem to recall that they were in separate studio rooms that were next to each other, so they were still able to (sorta) work the way they were used to. Though that would be an amazing power move if that was still Casa Reznor and Atticus had to deal with it. I thought there was an interview about the Watchmen soundtrack that Trent said he was happiest in the studio that lead me to believe that he was trying to escape the brood, but I haven't been able to find it again in my idle searches, but it has also shown aside from how much material he has cranked out, he has done a shitload of interviews in addition.

I vaguely recall a photograph of his kitchen that was related to some NIN recording, I think? It was back when he was really into fitness and there was just fruit everywhere and other healthy food for people to help themselves to and one of the people working on the album just took a photo to show how nice Trent was treating everyone at his place. I'm fairly sure that after the hurricane and his relocation to Los Angeles he decided to have a home studio rather than the situation in New Orleans where he had the studio in the old funeral home or whatever (that apparently had an apartment above?) and then his house somewhere else. During those days he probably slept at the studio so much that he figured it would be wise to incorporate one into wherever he moved to in the future. I know other musicians said Trent was a really miserable guy back in the 90s so I think this is basically his coping mechanism and that he always wants to be occupied with something. Depending on what album cycle that was, the fruit house was likely 2-3 residences ago. There was a house of his on the market in 2015 and a couple years back there was some kind of lawsuit involving the house he was renting that would have been after he got married and had at least a couple kids. I can only imagine how big of a house he would need for five kids, at least one professional-level studio, and storage for enough gear to not be frustrating.
