How? Smashing a thing you already paid for does nothing at your own expense. Stealing silverware gives you free silverware at the expense of the restaurant. Unless you're suggesting that dine and dash to not pay for the meal is the only ethical way to eat at a chain restaurant, which I agree with. gently caress em.

This, it's loving bizarre that people will apparently go to bat to defend the most inconsequential poo poo on the grounds of some kind of prosocial clawback when the stakes are by their own admission almost nothing

The only thing I ever stole from a restaurant was a whiskey watering cruet that we made a good faith effort to purchase first. It was the first place we ever had irish whiskey at in Ireland, and it was branded.

We really wanted it, and were pretty drunk, so my wife slipped it into her purse and we tipped like $20 extra before stumbling back to our B&B.

I think it was the idea of the other couple we were sitting at the table with, who'd also come to hear the music, but the Euro stops here, so to speak.

Oh, man, that'd go perfect with the Glencairn glass I happened to buy from the Irish Whiskey Museum. Bought the glass as a neat memento and didn't think twice of the name. Later ended up drinking a flight or two of whiskey while chatting with the bartender when visiting Galway about a week later.

I know this is off-topic, but I wanted to say that your bottle is a neat memento. For that same reason, I am resisting the urge to open the sealed "tasting notes" envelope I got with the whiskey.

There’s a chart floating around showing most overplayed pop Christmas music came out in the 40s and 50’s, which of course coincides with boomers’ childhoods. The only song millennials have added to the “canon” is Mariah Carey.

If I had a store, and it played music, I would play nothing but the Happy Holidays song on repeat.

You can have your Christmas music, but it's not going to say "Merry Christmas"'

Boomers love old Bing Crosby Christmas movies. Boomers hate being subjected to the words "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"

The boomers will sell us the tinsel with which we'll hang them.

This one from xkcd?

Yeah, just pop a block on there in the 90's for "All I Want for Christmas is You" and that's every retail stores playlist from Black Friday to like mid-January.

And if they're feeling sassy, throw in Springsteen's cover of "Santa Clause is Comin to Town," and "Wonderful Christmas Time" by McCartney.

I find it wasteful when people do it other than the way you described with only using the ones given to you from food deliveries.

When I was younger and lazy I'd just plastic silverware almost exclusively. Eventually I noticed I could literally taste metal on the rare occasions I used metal silverware. I dunno if it was purely psychological, but that was weird as heck.

Cheers to REK and Lou Monte posts above. Friend of mine is from Milan, visited over Xmas two years ago, and found out then that he's a Christmas freak to an extent that exhausts his wife. Put on Dominic the Donkey and he swore up and down that the Italian in that song wasn't Italian. He is from the North, though, so his accent is a little different than the Southern Italians that I understand made up most of the diaspora.

Talking with friends from back in my lovely drunken Irish hometown, all of us are surprised that they came for that song, this winter of all winters, for its single use of f*gg** instead of it's repeated chorus sentimentalizing the NY-friggin-PD.

Yeah, I try to let it squeak in with "The Irish-American experience in New York had a intimate relationship with working in the NYPD" as a way to let myself still enjoy the song.

I'll admit the I do enjoy the terribly cheesy Muppets and John Denver Christmas album.

Especially Rolf and John's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" duet.

It's nice, in a sort of sad little way. While listening to it, I always imagine a lonely old man, his friends long dead, his family moved on with their own traditions... Clutching a glass of brandy and staring into fireplace, thinking of days gone past.
