What the gently caress is going on with the Cynic rhythm section?! Did they ever figure out the cause of death for Reinert? His husband said he was perfectly healthy so I assumed an aneurysm or something.

e: Apparently Reinert had an aortic rupture. And couldn't be an organ donor because he was gay. Stupid!

I've never listened to Cynic so I suppose today is a good day to fix that - where should I start?

They only have three albums and some demos. Focus is legendary. They broke up after it and didn’t come back for another 15 years. Traced in Air is a fantastic comeback. Kindly Bent to Free Us is...not. But it ain’t bad.

I saw them on a support spot (for Opeth I think) after they reformed - it was only a short set, but I got to see them do the classics and it was great.

Losing both Seans in 2020, loving garbage. Saw them back in ~2009 with Meshuggah out in Anaheim and it was a killer show. Such cool guys and so much drat talent.

You and whose knees?

Tired: AOTY lists
Wired: cool poo poo you might have missed lists

Diabolic Oath - Profane Death Exodus (death/black, borderline war)
Sxuperion - Omniscient Pulse (death/black with a real weird vibe, it's alternately cavernous and "spacey")
Sepulchral Curse - Only Ashes Remain (death/meloblack)
Septage - Septic Decadence (Carcass-indebted deathgrind)
Cranial Contamination - Into the Warp (knuckle-dragging slammy death)
Graceless - Where Vultures Know Your Name (BOLT THROWER, also on my AOTY because it fuckin owns)

They play death metal.

Also, the album title seems to translate to "People's Republic of the People" which is a bit circular.

You could also buy a second hand vinyl, but there's no official digital download(this isn't unusual for lots of metal releases). There's a bunch of people selling never played copies on discogs for pennies though.

We're talking about a 20 year old album that had fewer than 3000 copies pressed and the label that released it is closed down (and was against digital distribution when it was around), so no.
