The music of the spheres? I love that he ended up adding that in to one of his little charity bits with David Tennant a quarter century later

Why, what's this that came in the mail? Oh, my sainted aunt! It's an animated reconstruction of one of Patrick Troughton's adventures as the Doctor. And what perfect timing - today happens to be my birthday! Both times that I've watched through the Troughton era, the repros I watched were of questionable quality at best, so it's great to have one that's so professionally made. A very warm thank you to my mysterious benefactor. Hypnotism! Poison gas! Giant grab monsters! Ben, Polly, Jaime, when I say run, run!

One thing I've always liked about Doctor Who is the relationship between the Doctor and the TARDIS. Rather than having it be just a plot device to get the characters where the story needs them to be, it feels like a character in its own right, and to do that with some wobbly sets and bleeping sounds, takes a lot of heart in the writing and acting to get the dynamic right. For a short story to promote other stuff, I quite enjoyed "What the TARDIS thought of Time Lord Victorious" for that reason.

Bicyclops posted:Why, what's this that came in the mail? You're very welcome, merry Christmas and happy birthday! Remember, it's never too early to start educating your children about Troughton recons There should've been a note with the package as well, I wonder if it came through? There's an additional bit to the gift anyway, so if you can't find the note or something doesn't seem to be right with it, let me know!

No note yet, but sometimes our delivery folks come twice a day, so maybe it got split up. Merry Christmas, Forktoss, and thanks again.

I love how early it comes into play too. Even in An Unearthly Child you've got Ian touching the TARDIS and gasping,"It's alive!", but straight up in The Edge of Destruction the Doctor - who has insisted it is "just" a time machine - realizes that the TARDIS has been trying its best to communicate a danger to them.

The past few months have been kind of rough emotionally - fighting with my Dad over the election, not being able to do the big Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas family events and just a general sense of low-energy ennui. Then my daughter said, "when was the last time you heard any of your Big Finish? Maybe you need to listen to something other than that weird Christmas one." Let me say, popping in Blood of the Daleks and hearing the old brooding synth-heavy Big Finish theme for Eight put a huge smile on my face. I think I'll give the EDA's and all the box sets for Eight a whirl.

Yeah it has been a super busy year or two for me and I'm kinda looking forward to having a bit more spare time next year and catching up on some Big Finish stuff which I have really fallen off listening to recently. That 9th Doctor release seems like a drat good place to restart.

It's not just Big Finish. HEARING the drat theme brought me a ray of hope. Which is absolutely fitting for our favorite Time Lord.
