Has anyone had experience getting Steam remote play together to work with non-steam games? I want to try out weird asymmetric VR games on itch.io with people remotely because 1. Download a steam game that does support remote play, we'll call this "donor". 2. Browse to the donor's executable, and replace it with RemotePlayDetached, which is just a simple file browser/launcher. 3. Launch the donor in steam, which will actually launch RemotePlayDetached with the steam overlay + remote play capabilities. At this point I can invite people to the remote play session. 4. Inside of RemotePlayDetached, launch whatever game you actually want to play. This works fine for flatscreen games, but for VR it seems to want to broadcast the HMD's display rather than what goes on the monitor. It'll work briefly and broadcast the monitor, but then quickly changes over to the HMD once the game launches the steamVR subprocess.

Bought a quest 2, they got stock again on Amazon so i thought I'd get involved. Looking forward to playing some population one and onward with my brother. Definitely getting Superhot again too, enjoyed that on my PSVR.

Beat Saber rocks hard! I agree too many anime songs, but as such I've managed to get around 150 songs that are good and fun to play, and not crazy difficult. I'm pretty ruthless with immediately deleting a song if it throws up insane amounts of notes that are impossible to hit without random flailing. I use it for my daily exercise, and it's been great. I did have to download a pirated version because they kept updating the steam version, which ruined my mods for a week or two each time. (Can't live without the rumble mod, to turn that poo poo off -- my controllers last at least twice as long without that bullshit rumbling every hit).

Thom and the Heads posted:How's No Man's Sky in VR? Depends on how you feel about the game normally. If you're like me and think it's a technicolor slog then chances are the same thing but ~IN VR~ won't change your mind. Other people have had the VR part make the game cool for them though, so my opinion isn't universal. If someone starts their spiel about No Man's Sky by bringing up all the work the studio did to fix the game from launch rather than how cool the game itself then you can safely ignore their opinion

I have reached the point in Beat Saber where I find Hard tracks comfortable and fun and Expert tracks laughably difficult and I feel like I'm just flailing. Got the elite strap for the Quest 2 today and it (or any other aftermarket strap) really is a mandatory buy, the standard one is garbage.

I had ordered one of those packages that came with a Link cable and some other protective stuff for the headset and controllers- none of which showed up with the headset. An email to the seller’s customer service revealed that Amazon would fulfill the rest of the order at a date TBD (hopefully next week they said) which doesn’t sit well with me at all since it was marketed as a bundle. So if you’re buying from Amazon, be very wary of Nexigo as they apparently play fast and loose with that stuff. That said, I messed around in Onward today and holy poo poo VR is so loving cool.

Thom and the Heads posted:How's No Man's Sky in VR? I really like No Man's Sky VR but I basically play it as a very pretty walking simulator that needs occasional recharging to walk. I don't build elaborate bases or do money schemes, even though that's a big reason a bunch of people like it. And I haven't touched on things like cooking or farming. It's just a relaxation thing for me. But it is very repetitive gameplay that often doesn't feel in service of an ultimate goal, so if you aren't into the core game activities like mining, crafting, and walking/driving/flying around, you probably won't like it. It doesn't exactly feel fully optimized for VR though and is a fair resource hog, so it takes some graphical/resolution tweaks to get to a comfortable level of smoothness in SteamVR, even on high end cards.

Agree, nms is a good chill exploration have in vr. Building large bases is a pain and the menu system is painful in vr, but you can usually get the game for reasonably cheap so I'd recommend it. It helps to have some vr legs under you first, things like the jetpack and ship can be rough.

I've read recommendations to use an Anker power bank for the Vive wireless adapter instead of buying more of the original (given the battery life/etc). Is there any good solution for strapping it to your person, or just put it in a pocket?

As expected, Room VR is great. They always nailed the tactile feel of loving around with these gizmos on a cellphone game, so it translates pretty naturally into VR where the big selling point is being able to poke stuff and see it do stuff.

Booyah- posted:Am I correct that for the Quest 2 any USB 3.0 cable will work instead of the official oculus one? The official Link cable is lightweight, lengthy and due to it's use of fiber optics it's always running at max speed, but all of that isn't necessarily worth US$80. If you just want to test out PCVR, even a USB 2.0 connection will work with reduced quality, frame rate etc so if you have a cable with USB-C on one end and the other can plug into your PC there's a good chance it'll work. I use 2x5 meter USB 3.0 extension cables connected to a 1m USB-C to USB-A USB 3.0 cable that's permanently connected to my headset, it runs to the battery at the back of my strap for wireless and I connect it to the extension cables for wired PCVR. Just sayin' there's a lot of flexibility! SCheeseman fucked around with this message at 08:06 on Dec 30, 2020 |

I ordered a G2 back in September and received it yesterday. I used it for about half an hour before deciding to send it back and just stick with my Rift CV1. The G2 has a pretty terrible sweet spot and apparently I'm far from the only one who has experienced this - see this video + comments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekfcd64V1nw Basically as soon as you move your eyes around everything is blurry. It's most likely due to the lenses. Also, I found the G2 controllers very uncomfortable, the screen door effect is minimised compared to the CV1 but far from gone, and the black levels are terrible against the CV1. I really don't understand why they would choose LED over OLED. Is it because of price? What other advantages would LED have?

Might return my G2 too The experience of ordering then waiting 3 months for it to arrive, then when it does arrive you discover you cant use it without a $80 adaptor, then the ordered adaptor arrives and it still doesnt work, then you try on another PC without the adaptor and it still doesnt work - leaves me a little over it. People can say what they want about Oculus/FB practices but at least their headsets work straight out of the box...

I'm interested to see what he finds in his next video. I wonder if it has to do with how thick the faceplate is and possibly being further away from the focal point than I should be.

They just vary a lot based on the creator. In general I think they trend towards 'more difficult than the baseline game at the same difficulty' but that's not always the case. If you find a few songs you really like the feel of you can always look into the mapper/creator and download more of their songs.

Try older maps from popular mappers, they are likely to be easier since there's been difficulty creep as the game's gotten older.
