Huh, guess I bought a new graphics card while I was drunk/high.

Is the RX5700XT Thicc(lol) III any good? I just got an alert that the shipping has been delayed, so I still have a chance to cancel it.

Full name is XFX RX 5700 Xt Thicc III Ultra 8GB Boost. Christ, the naming of graphics cards is the dumbest loving poo poo, I swear.

I agree. Shopping for GPUs is a baffling ordeal. And it would be nice if they would get smaller, not thicc-er.

Well, it already shipped so can't. Oh well. I'll try it out and if it sucks I'll just send it back. Or mine bitcoin. You know, one or the other.

A 6800XT would be an amazing drunk purchase. That holds up well in 1440p gaming and scales relatively with a 3070 (just no ray tracing or DLSS, of course).

I did this and was lucky enough to cancel it, some shoes, a skatekey and a bunch of other poo poo that I was nostalgic for because I am an out-of-shape 30 something that gets winded doing chores.

I see penny boards and I hate them. I also have giant feet and my boot is probably the size of most penny boards.

I'm also an old but still got a couple of longboards to cruise around on. There's a good path that goes from Torrance beach to Marina Del Rey? Maybe Venice? Don't know haven't been that far yet. Mostly flat and not super windy so just easy cruise.

The one along the beach? That goes from the southernmost edge of Torrance County Beach all the way up to the Bel-Air Bay Club. It’s a really nice ride, used to ride it once a month or so when I had a bike.

In theory I really like a skateboard small enough to fit completely in a backpack but yeah I’m not even that big 5 11 size 10.5 shoe and I felt like a cartoon of an elephant riding a tricycle on that thing.

What I will endorse though is putting 60mm penny wheels on a normal sized deck

Furthest I've gone is the very end of Torrance to Hermosa on a longboard. It's amazing but I don't think I'll be making it to Bel-Air.

Id never seen those shark wheels before; they seem like they’d be a super bumpy ride given their design, but it says it’s actually a smoother ride. Thoughts?

they use a swirly sine wave design so the contact part is actually always a smooth circle but I doubt they'd last very long compared to traditional wheels. I get the less friction uses for skateboarding but I don't know why they'd be better for long boarding.

Get an otterbox "commuter" . Our phones have survived babies and toddlers in them. These are either upgraded phones or gifts.

Otterbox is overkill imo. I’ve been getting smartish Kung fu grip cases for the last umpteen phones in our house and they do a good job of keeping your phone in shape without much added bulk. That and a decent tempered glass case and you’ll be good to go.

E - It will (probably) not take a car running over it, but for daily normal use it’s plenty good at preventing damage from drops/falls.

imo, the most important part of a good case is a good raised bezel that will protect the screen if it falls facedown and a good tempered glass protector or whatever.

They're definitely softer rubber than traditional skate wheels, so that and the bigger contact patch means they'll probably wear down quicker yeah. They're good for longboarding because the channels handle debris and sand better than traditional wheels. I've skated through sand patches with no issues that would've bailed me on traditional wheels

This $200 Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven thing

Boring backstory: I'm a bad cook, and a former roommate always left the kitchen disgusting so I had 0 interest in using the kitchen besides the microwave to cook frozen dinners. Moved across the state, now have clean roommates who have been teaching me how to cook better. I've had an interest in air fryers since they seemed to be a one stop shop for cooking things. I did some research and found that convection ovens are basically that, and realized that I wanted to see my food cooking so I could check doneness. Went to Target and brought this home.

Anywho, this thing is freaking magic and its made cooking a lot of fun. I've only used it for vegetables, chicken, and beef so far, but its been fantastic with all of those. I've had it for a little less than a week, so im learning what the best temperatures are for certain items. Cleaning is pretty easy. After I eat the meal that I cook, it's cooled down enough that I can go in with a wet sponge and give the walls/heating elements a wipe down. I make it a point to clean the grease trays too while they're still warm.

A good toaster oven with convection has totally changed the way we cook. I bought my wife a nice Breville back in April and I think we've only used our full-size oven a dozen times since. The toaster oven preheats so much faster, maintains a more constant temp, doesn't get the kitchen as hot in the summer, and is plenty big for 2 people. I've used it for everything from reverse-searing steaks to roasting salmon to baking cookies to air frying brussles and frozen foods to reheating leftovers to melting cheese under the broiler. It also does an amazing job as an actual toaster and gets bread/bagels/english muffins perfect every time yeah i toast my supermarket bagels, fight me. Honestly probably one of my best purchases of 2020.

One of my other favorite purchases in 2020 was a bunch of melamine Asian-style soup spoons. Holy poo poo, why didn't I switch to these years ago? They are so much better for eating any kind of soup or stew or chowder or chili or breakfast cereal -- they're bigger with a deeper bowl so you get a better ratio of liquid:solid, they sit on top of the food instead of sinking to the bottom, and they don't heat up and burn your tongue. I used them for decades at Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese/Thai restaurants and never thought to just buy some and now I'm kicking myself for spending too long without them.

Not the most exciting purchase ITT, but I just got an 06 CRV with 127k on it from a friend for the low, low price of $1,500. Sure it's a few years older than my 08 Focus w/ 190k miles, but it's got AWD, is in great condition, and will be a big quality of life upgrade for Colorado livin'. Gonna upgrade the stereo, add a hitch/bike rack, and call it a day

The AI peeps are way better at this, but:

From what I've read, the Buick Regal TourX is/was decent for the price if what you're looking for is a comfortable family hauler. The newer Subaru models are taller and becoming more SUV-like while the other full-on wagons are pretty much limited to luxury brands.

If I were in the marker, I'd still probably be checking out either a new Outback or a used (but under-warranty) V60 or V90.

My friend just bought a 2021 Outback and it's really nice but also way bigger than the last Outback I rode in which was like a decade older. It's a full on SUV now.
