And the dude who wrote that awful Splinter of the Mind's Eye book where the climax is Vader and Leia having a debate about banking regulations or some poo poo wrote a script treatment for Episode IX that literally lobotomized Rey because he hated her so much and got laughed out the room by the folks at Lucasfilm.
Okay he doesn't deserve the royalties after all.

Babu Frik is one of the few elements of Rise of Skywalker that most people actually liked. But in general, eh, no.

I felt like there were articles about how much people loved babu frik out before the movie itself was out. Needless to say, didn’t feel very organic

I'm sure they were about as organic about the 500 million blog posts within a period of a few days about baby yoda when season 1 of the Mandalorian aired.

Isn't Baby Yoda's name like, Groogu or some bullshit now?

JJ Abrams just kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet Babu Frik and had to have it pointed out to him by Steven Spielberg that he accidentally killed him off originally.

1) JJ Abrams is a directorial coward and both his films have characters who died in script hastily saved, I completely get why Disney hired him now
2) I laughed when they blew up Babu Frick with the big gun so finding out he lived later in the film was a bitter pill.

Honestly I thought of "weird mask lady for Poe to be into" dying and chuckled, I don't think I considered that Babu Frik might have ate it

I think that's just entrepreneurs as a class. The basic technology doesn't require any particular deviation from well-understood physics, and there are research molten salt reactors that actually exist and produce power. I don't know if it will ever lead to any widespread adoption since, well, it's nuclear reactors, which means political factors are the overwhelming concern.

You can tell that Disney somehow had no idea that people would fall in love with Baby Yoda for how goddamn long it took for them to merchandize it.

I know that Disney's weird as hell about their TV cartoons with their 3 season limit, but I don't know if that carries over to their adult TV or if there's some kind of internal separation with the other TV companies that they own.

The Mandalorian was a surprise success, and it was basically an accident that it even came out because they lost confidence in their grand Star Wars movie plan and downgraded the upcoming Bob Fett movie to a TV show. I don't know if they'll start respecting TV more or try to learn and reproduce the success or if they'll just forget about it. Massive corporations are unknowable inscrutable beasts.

they've got something like 68 million people paying $7 a month (soon to be $8 a month) for disney plus. they've absolutely done the math by this point and concluded that having a steady stream of half a billion dollars a month is worth propping up as hard as they can.

It's because of union stuff apparently that they have to pay the crew more if a show goes over 3 seasons. Apparently DuckTales got cancelled (boo) because Star Vs got a fourth season that apparently underperformed. Not sure if this applies specifically to animated stuff either, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Remains to be seen whether the executive fuckery and aversion to long-term planning that helped the sequels to poo poo the bed so badly will instead flock to the TV division rather than just letting creators do whatever as long as they stick to the style guide.

It actually caught me off guard how genuine and wholesome it was because up to that point the whole movie just had this underlying air of misery and meanspiritedness that I'd never seen before from a franchise movie like that. I didn't think the film had it in it to be that good and fun, and then like ten minutes later the "Rey Palpatine" bomb dropped :manning:
