I didn't say people are wrong. People can like bad improvisers. It gives a good foil for the good improvisers to riff on (as they do most episodes she is on). I just don't like it.

She is a straight bad improsiver. That doesn't mean she is a bad comedian but she is clearly awful at improv. Which is kinda the name of the game. If anyone with any improv background listens to her segments there are some very obvious signs she is struggling, which is especially surprising considering she was with UCB before joining SNL. Its really confusing.

I think it's funny that's she's really bad at improv, no matter the character, and Scott gives her grief about it almost every time. I don't really care if she's doing it intentionally or not. I just want her backstory to come apart at the seams as Scott needles her, and she gets indignant, and Scott gets bored, and I'm having a good time, listening.

It's sorta like most of PFT's characters being really aggressive with Scott. He's a switch!

I like Ego but can also see where the "She can struggle with improv" argument is coming from given that her best Teacher's Lounge appearance was the one where she just asked one question repeatedly for like 30 minutes while actively rejecting any possible answers given to her.

I also don’t begrudge anyone who just “nopes” at Scott, because he does often recommend things about their character or push their narratives hard in one particular direction. So sometimes the meta creeps in where they are actively pushing back on Scott more than they are on the other improvisers.

Early Zouks was so funny because he would flat out deny Scott or force him to interrogate the ways he painted characters.

Last year, I think, Scott was getting really busy with producing TV Shows and preparing to direct the Between Two Ferns movie, and said, "We'll see what happens in the next year. There may be some changes. I dunno what the future holds." He was saying that he was maybe going to let someone else host the show for a while--Zouks, I assume--before he took over hosting again. The schedule worked out and he was able to bank a lot of episodes, so he never had to take a break from the show.

Fans didn't know this until the Best Ofs of 2019, which is when he clarified. They thought the show was going to end without a lot of notice.

Right now, so many shows are leaving Earwolf and Stitcher. It's obviously got some fans concerned about the future of CBB. I think he was just trying to show good faith and let everyone know he still likes doing the show and that it's gonna stick around for another year.

Yeah, with the exodus of hosts/shows my Earwolf diet is down to just CBB, Bonanas and How Did This Get Played (On a recent Doughboys episode Wiger had a good laugh when the guest made a joke about "Imagining Scheer and Mantzoukas just desperate to get out of their Earwolf contract..." so I've got some questions about the future of HDTGP.)

It feels like the old guard/"little guys" are getting muscled out post-Sirius buyout, but CBB's almost certainly still one of the network's biggest shows and I don't think Scott needs to go to Patreon to get a living wage on a reasonable schedule.

I'm behind on Doughboys but the joke reads to me that they've got one of the cushier contracts and are quite content where they are. They should do, isn't HDTGM Earwolf's biggest podcast that doesnt have Conan on it?

If HDTGM isn't the biggest it's up there. Plus, they make (made) a lot of revenue from live shows. And for everyone involved it's a pretty cushy scenario. Paul does a show a weekly. June just has to kinda watch a movie every two weeks and has Paul to fall back on. Jason just watches the movie at the last minute before the show. I can't see those guys going anywhere unless it was some major step up or they got really busy all at once. It's rote to them now. And I still kinda like it but it's clear that they're a band playing the same stuff for years and it's a bit of going through the motions. Tbf, I've kinda checked out for the past year or so so I can't really say how it is.

Get Made is definitely in a good space, but I meant the future of Wiger/HAC/Get Played with Earwolf. A few weeks prior on a Double, Dan Lippert said Big Grande went independent with their new shows "So we don't have to wait two years to get paid by Earwolf," and Wiger also responded to that with a hearty laugh and an affirmative.

Ah. It's hard to say. I think PLAYED will probably stick around on Earwolf unless they get offered a worse contract. Wiger already has Doughboys and it's (Edit: HDTGP) fairly dependent on the Earwolf production/recording staff. I doubt it'd be worth moving. Wiger would probably end it before worrying about moving it anywhere. I don't know where Heather Anne Campbell factors into all this. I suspect that HDTGP it's a moneymaker for anyone but easy enough to just keep on doing. Especially in the time of Zoom. that may have helped the podcast, honestly.

Yeah, I'm surprised they haven't broken off and combined it with Doughboys patreon or switched to Headgum, but it may just be a pain in the rear end to get out of the contract right now and not worth the hassle for something that probably isn't that profitable.

Part of what makes it work is Matt and Devin. So they'd have to work out getting those guys paid , if they'd even be cool with doing outside podcasts and if Earwolf would be cool with that too. Then having to set everything else up. Or just keep doing what they're doing, playing a video game a week (and I'm assuming, hoping, that EW compensates them for as far as purchases or what not).

It's the classic be freelance or work for a corporation conundrum. In this case I can't see it being worth jumping ship. Also forget the fact about who owns the actual rights and having to buy those out.

I haven't listened to the episode but I do love how on here and on reddit when someone doesn't do gangbusters the default is "they must be bad at improv." As opposed to improv is an imperfect type of comedy so sometimes you just have a dud. Like earlier in this thread where its like Ego is bad at improv which is by nature of her career demonstrably un-true.
