Today in arrests: - Zip tie guy, Eric Munchel, has been arrested. Like many of these geniuses, he had given an interview, with the Sunday Times of London. The internet helped identify Munchel. - Another guy with flex cuffs has also been apprehended. (Both arrests are covered in this link). The New York Times has a roundup of notable arrests. Flex cuffs guy, Larry Brock, is not included on this list.

They have an extremely high weight capacity, there's a zillion wheels on them too. The way they operate is they'll usually back the trailer under the item, and then use the trailer hydraulics to raise up the deck until it lifts the load. The only information I got is what's in this video, but I would guess that the hydraulics on one side of the trailer failed in some way. They might have lowered the one side a touch to counteract the turn and maybe didn't close the valve all the way and they went all the way down over the next minute or something. Or just mechanical failure. It's pretty suspect that it rolled off into a turn though. If it was just from sheer lack of planning it would have probably gone the other way. Again with no information, if I were to guess, it's probably the guy who steps out of the cab who hosed up. Those vessels can get pretty heavy and those particular ones look pretty big, but they aren't quite as big as they appear. The shiny finish they have is just exterior cladding to some insulation around the vessel that could be anywhere between like 2"-6". The actual vessel would be painted the same dull milky grey as the one exposed flange you see. It rolling in the ditch probably didn't damage the vessel too much, but all the insulation and cladding will probably have to be replaced. You can see the setup in the video they have for lifting it out of the ditch. I have done thousands of lifts, this one would have been a Big loving Deal and somebody was probably very cross that it had to happen. Each of those cranes is extremely expensive to rent/mobilize, and the lift itself has a lot of bullshit and unknowns.. A vessel like that would have engineered lifting points, but you can't use those if the loving thing is upsidedown. They don't show the actual vessel being lifted out of the ditch because it was probably sketchy as gently caress and they didn't want any narcs watching. Once the damaged trailer was out of the way they likely used the cranes to roll it back onto it's shoes (the poo poo it's supposed to sit on), and then re-rigged it and picked it up as designed and plopped it on a new trailer to take to site, so they can strip the cladding/insulation, probably do NDT (Non Destructive Testing, like x-ray) on all the welds, and then insulate it up again. It was very expensive and somebody could have got killed. The shipping company probably had to eat the extra costs.
