You may remember that Flash ended support in December 2020. And now the final nail in the coffin has come.

quote:

Since Adobe will no longer be supporting Flash Player after December 31, 2020 and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021, Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems.

Some users may continue to see reminders from Adobe to uninstall Flash Player from their system. See below for more details on how to uninstall Flash Player.

Now anytime you go to newgrounds(without their proprietary flash emulator that may also require unfucking updates) or attempt play the original version of happy wheels you get this to mock you until you rip out flash like an ugly weed out of the ground and never look back on what once was:

Joke's on you, Cosmo Kramer's Hentai Adventure has been preserved forever thanks to the Flashpoint project, the games list of which you can view here.

I do kinda wonder how many cartoons that began people's lifelong work as cartoonists will be gone and unrecoverable because of this. Or to get all existential about it, how many people tried to be a cartoonist, managed one, and it got uploaded somewhere, and now it's unrecoverable due to negligence or laziness or ignorance.

It is a bummer for certain reasons. Gonna be a pain in the rear end to go back and try to find things from the early days of the web in a lot of cases. Digital archaeology is gonna be a lot harder. From a tech standpoint, good riddance.

The Newgrounds flash emulator is a workaround outside of browsers, but it also needs any and all adobe flash :airquote: security updates :airquote: uninstalled from your machine to properly function. At least on windows 10. You can also directly load .swf files in it from anywhere I think, as long as you have that long jumbled URL to copy/paste.

I think you can still use Flash? It just won't get updates. No one is uninstalling it from your computer.

You can still run flash 32.0.0.363. That was the last version that isn't timebombed.

If anyone needs it, here is a zippyshare link with ActiveX, Mozilla, Pepper (Chromium), the standalone player, and the uninstaller. You need to use the uninstaller if you have a version of Flash installed later than 32.0.0.363.

https://www18.zippyshare.com/v/Unm7FVCK/file.html

When installing, make sure to select the option to "Never check for updates."

Standalone player should be fine, browser versions will of course only work in browsers that support them, for example Chromium will eventually get updated to not allow the Pepper version of Flash to run any more.

If you have saved SWF flash games, movies, animations, etc., you should still be able to play them in the standalone Flash player.

There are "enterprise" configurations of Flash for versions past 32.0.0.363 that will work, but it uses an "allow" list that has to have URLs included for allowing Flash player to work on just those URLs, and there is no way to configure the allow list with a "*" wildcard or something like that to "allow all." So the best way to continue to use Flash (if you need or want it) is version 32.0.0.363 combined with a browser that supports it, or the standalone player for offline / saved SWF files.

Here's a nice site to test if it's working

In-browser flash is blocked from running. If you try opening a swf file, you get this:

For now, you can still download a standalone content debugger, which will let you load and play flash files. Otherwise there's an emulator called Ruffle that I haven't tried yet.

Or, install Flash version 32.0.0.363.

It's a real rear end in a top hat move from Adobe to timebomb their code. It is up to the individual user to decide whether or not code will run on their machines, not anyone else. Too many people have been compromised from using too many phones, tablets, and consoles, into accepting that this is fine if it isn't the case.

Just because Liquor's dead, doesn't mean you can just roll this bitch all over town with "The Freedoms."
Am I right in remembering that Adobe chose to kill the Flash format entirely rather than just sell the rights to someone else so they could keep it running? Haven't been on Newgrounds in years but I spent a lot of time there when I was younger and it's sad to see what's left of it die off from what looks like some sort of corporate intellectual property mongering. Surprised it's still a website at all, I don't see them living through this.
