Lockheed does have some history with Magik, so I'm fine with having him. Especially since that's probably gonna be the only time we see him in a movie.

I would be surprised if a sequel happens at all lol would go into Illyana's background like that. For better or worse, Magik doesn't appear to be magical in New Mutants, it's all just about her powers and her "special place". At least that is what I got from Lockheed being alive when she was fighting using Limbo a lot and dead/inanimate when she was too beaten down to go there. It's her version of Cyclops' punch dimension, a place her powers allow her to go that gives her reality-altering powers.

From what we heard while working on it, this was the plan. The director did a lot of work conceptualizing Limbo, because he wanted to explore it more fully in a sequel.

Anya Taylor-Joy was the best part of the movie, predictably. I was sure glad when her character stopped being racist though, that was some uncomfortable writing.

Even then it was kind of weird, because they gave her sword power the look of the Transmode Virus despite that never having been introduced in any of the movies.

To these people any actor has no right to complain about anything, especially if they are non-white because their success proves that the system isn't racist. I've been mostly ignoring this stuff up til this point because I was clinging to the idea that maybe the writer whose comics I liked when I was a kid wasn't a giant loving rear end in a top hat. At this point I'm really hoping Jim Lee doesn't pop up in blackface somewhere

What really steels my hatred of Ellis, Olson, Fish, Renegade Cut, and the entire Breadtube clique is that they all claim to be leftists or at least Democratic Socialists, but they hung their hat on the idea of liking Snyder flicks to be somehow morally bankrupt, so when an actual labor issue that might make Snyder look somewhat good comes along it’s dead silence (if not outright denying it.) You can hate Zack Snyder and still not be a tool who accuses the black actor with a history in labor organizing of being a liar, but it’s specifically incompatible with these people’s world views because they made a business off of turning this into a culture war. You might be able to throw your support behind Fisher if your videos were just about how Snyder isn’t your thing, but they’ve spent so long attaching him to fascism and other moral degeneracies that to back even just someone with good things to say about him throws their entire thesis into question.

It all goes out the window the second something that doesn’t perfectly align with their bizarre red-string theories comes along. You cannot count on these people as your allies.

I'll own that. If I hadn't heard about Fisher's situation in this very thread with all the attendant details, "Hollywood actor-baby whining" would absolutely have been my take based on clocking the headline of the story which I would not have bothered to read in any detail due to the aforementioned "take."

Saw Ant-Man and the Wasp and it was surprisingly good!

I liked that they just went hog wild with the shrinking/growing gimmick and applied it to every goddamn thing without shame.

And for a more superficially more jokey character Ant-Man is actually less of a generic Marvel snark character than most in this movie.

The thing I like most about the Ant-Man movies is the way the stakes are vitally important, but mostly personal in nature.

If Hank and Hope can't retrieve her in time, they'll lose Janet, who is Hank's wife and Hope's mother forever, suffering that grief all over again.

If Scott gets caught by the FBI, he goes to prison, losing his friends and the chance to be in his daughter's life.

If Luis and co. can't land that one account, they lose their business and (non-criminal) livelihoods.

If Ghost can't get cured, she dies an agonizing death after living an agonizing life.

If Sonny can't get the lab, he faces unnamed but likely fatal consequences from his other business associates.

If Woo fails to catch Scott and Scott does some big criminal act, Woo suffers humiliation and probable demotion.

But in the larger scheme of things (absent Scott's involvement in the plot of Endgame), so what? Bad things happen to some of these people and their circle of associates, but there's no real direct consequences for the city/state/country/world. The movie itself drives that home in the mid-credits scene. After everything that was done in the movie, those folks are Snapped out of existence anyway.

And I Floved that. I Floved that an MCU movie had the stones to keep the stakes personal instead of "OMFG if we don't stop this, the Super-Duper Cosmverse will be destroyed for the whole of forever!"

Literally all it take to make the people you mentioned not be hypocritical is simply retweeting Fisher lol. You can still dislike Snyder and be like “hey this poo poo hosed up if proven true” at a case that clearly combines various leftist issues (racist mistreatment of workers and the alleged abusers being covered by wealthy executives).

Evans in talks to come back for 1-2 films.

I was thinking a few weeks ago, that it would make sense for him to return in Black Panther 2, possibly at the funeral for T'Challa. Could also then appear in WW2 flashbacks if that movie was also setting up Namor. Of course current rumor is that BP 2 might be setting up Dr. Doom, so who knows.

And they never will because they made opinions on superhero movies into a moral signpost. They bet huge on Snyder turning out to be a secret QAnon psycho or something and now that actual politics and morality are involved they’re objectively wrong, so their best strategy is to hope nobody calls them out on it and/or accuse Fisher of being a liar.

They’re all white people who fancy themselves leftists but have never done an ounce of praxis in their lives, so they twist themselves into arguments about how doing what they already do - watching superhero movies and posting about them - still counts. My God, they piss me off so loving much.

We don't actually know their hearts, but I agree with you that there's a lot of people who use being on the left to polish their moral vanity and little else.

I am very disappointed that I didn't get a single Google alert or see anything in the mainstream about Ray's stance. Typical, but it's still disappointing. He needs someone to amplify his voice and nobody is stepping up.

I also really like that they're a different genre than the rest of the MCU. They've still got the fantasy/sci-fi action elements of superhero films, but at their core, Ant-Man movies are heist films.

I wish they'd do that more. Westerns, kung fu flicks, screwball comedy, neo-noir detective thriller, cosmic horror, etc. It would keep the movies from feeling too samey.

There's a ton of "I'm a lawyer and if Ray actually had something he could speak publicly without fear of being sued. He obviously has nothing and just wants attention." posts on Reddit along with a lot defending Johns saying he's done more for diversity in comics than Ray ever could.
