Last time I moved, I only filled book boxes half way with books and the rest with clothes to keep the weight down. But it made twice as many boxes to carry.

I had a lot of small boxes on hand so it was mostly lightweight. Still sucked. I also moved all thos damned detolfs. And this was after we agreed to hire movers.

I moved last year and I worked out that I had roughly 4 tons of books. I wouldn't mind giving 60% of them away, but I don't know anyone who would want them. This is stuff even thrift stores would say, "Hard pass," to.

I moved in November and had 40 boxes. The weight wasn’t terrible but I don’t really want to do that again anytime soon. That also doesn’t count my actual comics, many of which are still sitting in a storage locker.

I actually tried using those plastic totes to move the OSHCs this time and a lot of them wound up having shattered lids because they apparently weren’t full enough... RIP. I’d say most of my haul from the last few years is still in the plastic. I was living in a studio apartment with a leaky roof and then moved into a small rental with my now wife before this house. A majority of those books haven’t even been out of a box since 2016 I’d guess. Maybe 2015. I actually cut a decent amount of stuff two years ago when I was still a Library Director to basically found the Comics section. At this point I only read digital and buy at the crossroad of love and format.

I've read most of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but haven't kept up with the last few (I think Roses of Berlin was the last one I read?). It seems that there is no full collection of the series, which I would really like to buy instead of individual volumes. Is there talk of making one large collection of the entire series?

I bought those as trade and then later as absolutes, then added the black dossier absolute. BD can be found for 20-30 right now (its slim)..Vol 2 of the absolutes also is still floating around in the 125-150 range new. Vol 1, much harder. There's also some HC of the nemo trilogy that you can find and a slipcase set (https://www.topshelfcomix.com/catalog/nemo-trilogy-slipcase-edition/926) that you can't I personally gave up halfway through Century and have been meaning to go back to read it all now that tempest is done..the drop in quality put me off but maybe as a whole it's solid..I still have love for vol 1 looks like the tempest has a hardcover collection now too, so technically all of the series exists in hardcover at least zer0spunk fucked around with this message at 15:32 on Dec 22, 2020 |

Just finished reading Wonder Woman: Dead Earth and it was pretty fun from the beginning to the end. I've been reading a lot of crime noir, sci-fi, slice of life stuff recently and it's fun to go into something being super violent for no reason. I really like the magazine format and wondering if anyone knew if there was anything else in the pipeline from DC Black label in that format.

I got the new printing of the first Uncanny X-Men omnibus in the mail today. It's surprisingly thin, something like half of the width of the version one of my friends has. I believe I've said this before, but I think Marvel (and now DC as well) made a huge mistake when they made the call to move to thinner paper for their collected editions. If they wanted to go cheaper/more eco-friendly that's fine, but I think going for thinner glossy pages instead of moving to manga-like unprocessed sturdy paper was a complete misfire. The pages are so thin and brittle that I feel like I'll rip part of them off if my finger just so happens to be a little sticky or oily. On the other hand, I do appreciate the fact that these books are thinner now. This makes them much easier to hold and read, and makes stretching out the spine a lot less work.

Since this thread is focused on physical collected editions I figure this is the best place to ask a question about storage. Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. So long story short my bookcase which holds my various xmen omnis has collapsed in a farcicle accident. It was an IKEA bookcase I've had it for over a decade I'm honestly suprised lasted as long as it did. Need a replacement and am looking for something strong to replace it. Hoping you guys have a good idea of what to look for/where to buy a good one (willing to pay more for a good one) Main caviat is I want the dimensions to be as close to the original bookcase as possible. Original dimensions: Height = 192cm Width = 60cm Depth = 20cm Any help would be appreciated

Looking on their website they have multiple KALLAX bookshelves, the only difference semms to be their price and sizes. Am I right in thinking that's the only difference and they are all good options for storage? Never used ikeas website before so sorry for the newbie question

I have their 4x2 laid horizontally and have no worries about it falling apart. I use another 2x2 for my record player, but that's holding way less weight. My only issue with them is the depth. I only need about 60% of it for my books and all that space behind them is pretty wasted.

If you don't have absolutes then BILLY shelves will do the trick as well, and they're a lot cheaper. Just make sure not to buy the triple-width ones because the shelves on those might not be able to support the weight forever.

Shorter ones are generally fine (unless you have kids/pets that will climb on them), but I definitely screwed my tall shelf to the wall as I'd hate a shelf full of books to fall on me or my computer. But that's true for all bookshelves. I don't think that slight notch makes them any more tippy, especially away from the wall.

The Kallax come with a wall attachment thing, as well. They're also a lot deeper, though, and harder to knock over.

Measure your trim before you buy Billy's, the cutout is actually kind of short and a lot of newer trim is too tall to fit under it. Like at my fuckin house.

I was about to as I recently reordered stuff (made room for my Umbrella Academy OSHCs on the Billy shelves, but they were too tall, so I had to make more room and more my Powers HCs over there), but had to quickly leave home for a family emergency.

Circling back around to this: the pages are so thin that you can see what's printing on the next page through all the white areas. It's really dire.

I had the same issue with the Thanos Infinity Saga Omni, there are a lot of pages with just Thanos and Warlock in a blank void so it's pretty miserable.
