Equeen posted:Yeah, Rorschach was a violent wingnut, but by the end of the story it was the rich guy who killed millions of people for “peace”. the real reason watchmen can’t be adapted isn’t because of an alien squid or whatever the gently caress, it’s because it’s a superhero movie with only one actual superhuman (who is essentially an incomprehensible god and is written as alien and unrelatable to the people around him) and a bunch of unlikable jerks who are at turns cowardly, misanthropic/racist, sexual abusers, etc. etc. etc. and unlike something like deadpool (which is a loving homage to superheroes at its core) or stuff like brightburn or chronicle (which offer critiques of specific superhero tropes but don’t try to bring the whole thing down), you instead have a story with a bunch of very flawed human people who don’t actually manage to accomplish or change anything and that’s not a script that sells

The original Willy Wonka movie did a good job handling the weird pygmy worker colonialism of the book by just making them weird orange fantasy dwarves in lederhosen. Can't wait to see how this one fucks it up or tries to steer away from it only to crash back into it.
