[WONKA 2021, ACT 1 SCENE 2] Kiddie Wonka: "Father, I'm leaving to become a chocolatier." Wonka's dentist father (aged-down cgi monstrosity Christopher Lee): "My son... you're turning to the dark side!" Kiddie Wonka: "At least it's not... the special dark side!" (mugs at the camera)

You can also have lovely squibs. But yeah, CGI gunplay is pretty awful unless the production is just top-notch.

That's obviously problematic as hell, but iirc in the book it's also mentioned that the oompa loompas were constantly being hunted down and eaten by crazy wild beasts in their homeland.

Communist Walrus posted:Outsourcing is when you send jobs overseas. This is highly localized slavery. "Social Dumping", don't know how much that term is used in English speaking countries but it comes up often enough in Norway due to easy availability of skilled and unskilled migrant workers from parts of the EU and EEC with low wages. (translated Norwegian wikipedia, the english wiki version wasn't as good) quote:Social dumping is a concept that in today's Norway is linked to labor immigration where foreign workers receive significantly worse pay and working conditions than Norwegian workers. Included in this are violations of rules on health, environment and safety (HSE), including rules on working hours and requirements for housing standards. [1] In Norway, the term has been used in particular for workers from Eastern Europe. The foreign workers often accept worse terms than the Norwegian ones due to a lower wage level in the home country. This in turn can have an adverse effect on Norwegian employees 'conditions and Norwegian companies' ability to compete for assignments. An important part to note here is how labor laws and legislation works in Norway. There are very few laws and regulations imposed from the government on the labor market and there is no national minimum wage. It's basically all left to labor unions and employers to work out between themselves with the government working as mediator. Within this framework you can have pretty good regulations and agreements that guarantee rights, wages, vacations and so forth. But for workers and businesses who kind of exist on the outside of it, where you have primarily temp or foreign workers who don't unionize (and in these cases, protections are often poor enough that employers can prevent this) or know local legislation or even the local legislation, the level of exploitation can get incredibly gross.

This owns so hard. stephenthinkpad posted:Space Ellis Island officer, "What's your first name?" I am so loving dead. Roumba posted:You can also have lovely squibs. But yeah, CGI gunplay is pretty awful unless the production is just top-notch. Pretty much why I give John Wick a pass. They don't use CGI blood because they are lazy, it's to stay within a modest budget and have scenes that are far too complex to use squibs, or to crank out the headshots as well as safety concerns. Instead, they go for face time with the actors which is a good trade. The number of hours training is insane. Total respect for Keanu, Berry and Charlize. That said they can do a lot better and could use some squibs. LanceHunter posted:Corridor Crew can be really frustrating because they're good filmmakers and VFX artists (especially in the context of youtube content), but it feels like they don't recognize their own limitations. Like, they get really big into making all the muzzle flashes look exactly right, meanwhile they've got fake-rear end blood splatters all over the place and sub-dummy level digital doubles. I think a big part of it is that they're younger and came of age in the CG era, so there are a lot of fake things that look "real" to them because that's what what they saw in movies as they were growing up (just like how really fake things like squibs and puppets covered in vaseline look more "real" to us older folks because that's what we saw in the movies when we were growing up). I don't think they have ever had an old school guest which really doesn't help. They themselves usually don't have particularly interesting insights especially when they have a guest on who does all the heavy lifting as they interrupt. It's not like they have to stretch the run time as a guest will have a ton to say yet so many forced setups. OMG, the subs begging and call to actions, like get hosed. If it wasn't for the guests I wouldn't have given them the time of day.

Even as gruesome as The Pacific got it felt a bit too distant and I think that was due to the split up nature of each of the three main characters.
