Ah that's nice, kinda had a mental image of the editor sat home thinking 'I'm sure there was something I meant to cut out of this episode..." I'm not curious as to how many people actually reacted seriously negatively about their treatment on the show. I think if you go on S5 and have a bad time you probably need to have words with your agent.

“New” business model I hadn’t seen before: Patreon that only charges when specific content is released. I saw Sam Morril drop a new special (https://www.patreon.com/sammorril) that has segments from him doing a bunch of different rooftop shows during the pandemic and it’s great. He releases a regular special on YouTube earlier in the year and that’s enough for me to leave myself subbed because I know if he drops another full length special it’ll be really good.

I quite enjoyed the rapper ninja warrior stuff to end the episodes with as some of them seemed legitimately pissed. Was weird they left the interview in with the lady who died since filming, did they just not realize? I'm laughing at the notion that a tv show made it to air all because a single editor didn't realize a guest had died.

hes so good at creating a narrative in his sets, but imo the metoo connection became a too "auxiliary" in the latter half. there was a lot of stuff there re power/youth/opportunity/etc and how you deal with it cause you dont know better cant do anything anyway he deserves the fruits of his labor, but i woulda liked a broader call for action at the end. stockholders arent rational or ethical, and they certainly wont care about a tiny boycott disclaimer: im a socialist and im buzzed to say the least Carthag Tuek fucked around with this message at 23:28 on Dec 4, 2020 |

I saw Nate: A One Man Show on Netflix last night totally at random. Holy poo poo whaaaaaaat. It's somewhere between stand-up, sketch comedy and performance art - probably trending toward the latter. Funny and tense and thoughtful. It's rough in places, but I was glad I saw it. I think I benefited from going in blind so I'm not going to say too much. You figure out what it is and what it's about fast enough to know if it's something you want to continue to be part of. It's funny how overused terms like "brave" are in entertainment. Natalie Palamides is loving fearless. I'll definitely watch anything she does moving forward, even if I don't know if I'll enjoy it per se.

It's not the NBA bubble. The 100+ person crew of each show goes home (or in the case of Magnum PI, back to their hotel) every day and does whatever they want on the weekend.

My friend is the covid compliance officer for a big Amazon TV Show and yeah theres constant daily covid tests and things but theres no bubble. Everyone goes home at the end of the day. There were a couple isolated cases during shooting the past few months he said but they did get lucky as the case loads ballooned in LA since Thanksgiving.

Five part podcast about David Cross if anyone's interested: https://www.theassemblypodcast.com/season2 Dumb rear end story vaguely about David Cross if anyone's interested: A friend got me into Mr. Show in 1998 right before the final season aired. I was instantly hooked and an annoying amount of Mr. Show references have littered our conversations ever since. The following Summer Cross was coming to Seattle to do two nights at the Showbox, and it was being filmed for what ended up as "The Pride is Back" on HBO. We bought tickets for both nights despite knowing it would be the same set. We went downtown a few hours before show time, had a few drinks and ended up in line 30 or so minutes before doors opened. Surprised at how few people there were, it turned out he wasn't nearly as popular as we had thought/hoped. Talking to some other people in line, we heard that HBO or whoever was in charge of such things had been around the neighborhood earlier just giving tickets to people in hopes of getting them to come. "He's really funny! He's on HBO! This will be on HBO!" We overheard other people in line mentioning that they had never heard of him before. Doors open, we get seated near the front, and the show starts. Great set. Loved it. Have heard the material countless times since then. But the night itself? It's a mess. Font and center table directly infront of the mic stand? A table of three people that clearly don't know who he is and as it turns out - HATE his material. Leaning back in their seats, arms folderd, death stares most of the time. Tried to heckle at least once (Over a joke about Meg Ryan of all things) but gets called an idiot and laughed at by most of the audience. Later in the set, against the producers requesting people get their drinks ahead of time and stay at their table, one of them makes a show of getting up to go the bathroom. The Showbox is more of a music venue and the bathroom entrances are basically 10 feet from the stage so Cross followed them in mic in hand and poo poo talked them for it. All of this is at least amusing if annoying to a fan, but it's rendering the night basically unusable for recording a special. Night two. We headed down early again and are first in line. We want to be first in line due to knowing the start of the show. We bullshit for a bit with other people in line. Some had been there the night before, others not. But we heard some of the same things again. "They're just giving tickets away, etc..." A woman down line is clearly already drunk and we can hear her loudly stating poo poo like "IMMA BE ON HBO!!!" Bad omen. Doors open, we get in and bee line it straight to a particular table in the front. A few minutes later a producer for the show comes up and asks if we'd mind changing tables. "No no no. We were here last night. We know what table this is. We know last night kinda sucked, but we'll be cool. Promise." That was good enough for him. He turns to leave. I have no memory of who thought to rat the woman out, but someone catches his attention and tells him "Hey - you see that lady over there? Already drunk and being kinda loud? Well she was outside bragging about how she's going to act like a jackass so she can be on HBO." "Oh yeah? Her? Thanks..." A minute later he's at her table with security and she's getting escorted out as a couple dozen Mr. Show nerds are laughing at her. All I recall is that she was annoyed and called us all losers, L on the forehead gesture and all. And that's how me and my narc friends got someone kicked out of a comedy show before it even started. The table we were at is basically featured at the start of the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2OQXQYQaZ8 And that's how my dumb rear end friend and I ended up on screen in a 1999 David Cross special.
