So it turns that unbeknownst to me while I was creating my anvil and other props earlier, my blender sensei actually already had a tutorial all about making an anvil. So I went through it from scratch so I could compare it to the one I made alone and hopefully learn some additional techniques. Here is the result, surrounded by a premade HDR for lighting.  Here it is side by side next to my first anvil.  Goddamn my first one sucks poo poo compared to this!!! Then again it's ok, I don't feel bad. I was really just practicing modeling and threw on premade textures just to have something to take a picture of. This whole thing taught me a lot more about the texturing process, and how to texture paint multiple textures onto an object, like the "crust" at the top . It also showed me a proper way to model the divet at the base instead of whatever the hell I was doing before. I think I'll try applying some of these techniques to the sword and shield and see what happens. Got a long way to go, but I'm learning!

Can't help you on hardware but I can say that you could probably do better than you think regardless of your "art skill". I started with the donut having essentially zero art background. And not just 3D art background, art in general. I've never "done" art before. I can't draw for poo poo, I haven't picked up a paint brush since middle school, never ever sculpted or worked clay, etc. I'm just some goober in his 30's who decided he's gonna learn to do some gosh dang art and is putting the time into it. Learning new things isn't an idea limited to your school days. It is a lifelong opportunity.

Good morning thread! Meme, both your anvils are great. The first would totally pass in a game like Skyrim or something. When I scrolled down to the second one, I knew it was CG, but for half a second my brain thought, "wait, is that a picture of a real anvil?" That kicks rear end.
