Thanks, that was pretty good. And you're right, they're more Suffocation-style than slam.

I wouldn't consider Mortician slam but like Suffocation they're at least important to that genre.

Yeah Mortician is definitely an important influence for a lot of slam, and they're finally the in-style. I'm still waiting for the proper wave of Disgorge worship, but Disentomb does it uniquely, so I'm set.

edit: Crip and I are always on a quest to find more albums that worship Butchered at Birth too. We've explored it to death in the discord, but maybe someone here knows one we don't yet!

Yeah this is definitely their best since Gothic Kabbalah. I was skeptical since everything they put out since that album has been fine, but completely inoffensive and tiresome after one or two listenings, but I’ve listened to Tuonela and Eye of Algol like 4 times each today.

It's loving Therion, Christofer Johnsson has been doing his thing since the loving 1980s. It's all real and it's exactly as pompous as you'd think. Wouldn't call it tryhard though; it's not pretentious if you can actually do it.

I was a bigtime Therion fan back in the 90s but sort of haven't kept up after Lemuria/Sirius B (and what do you know, those albums are old enough to graduate high school now).

They somehow followed that album up with a 3-hour, 50-song rock opera. I like most Therion stuff up until around a decade ago, but sitting through that one made me want to never listen to their stuff again. I did check out the new one and noticed Mats Leven singing, though, so maybe they've recaptured some of their mid-2000s mojo.

Because Christofer Johnsson is kind of a weird dude with questionable taste. That Therion album is nothing but covers of old French songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPOYtC1n5bE

I actually really liked Beloved Antichrist, more than their previous two albums. It's weird and boring compared to some of their other recent albums (no boob nazis on this one) but whenever Lori Lewis sings, I'm entranced.

Alas, they absolutely can't make a good music video. The one I remember seeing from that album looked like a highschool video club project that didn't even get a passing grade.

Unsurprisingly, MDF is postponed again until 2022. They WILL be bringing Edison lot back, though, and most bands have already confirmed to return. Phlebotomized and Napalm Raid haven't responded yet, and only Grave Desecrator, Panzerfaust, and Blaze of Perdition have confirmed they won't be able to make it.

They've made a lot of weird stuff, I'd say the best period for me is from the early/mid-90s until about a decade later. Basically every album from Symphony Masses through Lemuria/Sirius B is at least solid and most of them are golden. (If I have to pick a favourite, it's between Theli and Vovin. Massive symphonic poo poo about Sumerian mythology and dragons, sign me right the gently caress up.)
