He in fact did. The Cable & Deadpool series had a long arc about Cable attempting to create an socialist island utopia open to everyone willing to work for the common good. The US sends Cap to try and end the situation but it reminds him so much of the Brooklyn he grew up in that he sticks around a while volunteering and painting murals in his free time.

I love that arc because at the end there's nothing any one on Earth can do to stop Cable aside from assume that he'll one day go too far and... enforce peace and prosperity for all? So they call in Silver Surfer to beat him up with his board and then IIRC lobotomize the power increase out of him.

Prob the most memorable part of that arc and the comic book was Fabian Niceiza (the writer iirc) literally making text the inability for anything to be permanent in comic books, as Cable sees his work being ripped apart in universe (because the editors wanted him to be a gun toting badass from the future again), and that making the world change for the better in the Marvel universe is doomed to failure.

Now that I think about it I think Kyle Chandler just likes big kaiju and monster movies a lot.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that except that there needs to be more kaiju/monster movies with scripts that are less crap. Who else wants Kyle Chandler for Pacific Rim 3 now?

On a different topic, I probably should have watched WW84 prior to reading about it here. Now I'm kind of turned off on the idea. So when I say what follows, I'll own that I could easily be talking out of my rear end.

I don't want to categorize what happened with the guy whose body Steve was inhabiting as rape.

The reason for that is I don't want to put something that's only possible with bullshit magic superpowers on the same level as, say, Bill Cosby drugging women and then having sex with their unconscious bodies. I think that risks trivializing what happned to Cosby's victims. Or to any woman who got roofied and raped. Or, really, to anyone who's been a victim of rape.

If you just demand some kind of "in-universe" rationale for that, figure that the guy's spirit was not present while Steve occupied his body. So once again through bullshit magic superpowers, Diana and Steve borrowed the guy's... "meat car" for a while. That isn't good or ethical, exactly, but it's not something that needs to be defined as rape, either, I don't think.

Anecdotal, but both sets of my grandparents immigrated in the early 1920s and settled in the stereotypical poor immigrant neighborhoods. Their experiences definitely shaped their opinions. They were white, blonde haired, and blue eyed but were the wrong kind of white with the wrong accents so they had to deal with a lot of poo poo. They were strongly left wing as they saw and directly benefitted from the social programs enacted during the depression. They disliked the police because they were regularly harassed by them for loitering because they would line up early in the morning when there were job openings posted at factories and they (immigrants) were blamed for the depression.

They definitely weren't perfect but they were a lot more tolerant and open to things due to their experiences than you'd think.

It's been a while since I've read it, but I think you're mixing up arcs.

With Silver Surfer, the story was that Cable's powers were overloading and making him a god, but he knew that it would eventually kill him. Cable figured he would force the world into peace and prosperity, which made him a target to the hero community. He predicted that the X-Men would go after him with Deadpool on their side (he was immune to Cable's mind-reading, making him an asset) and he'd ultimately die a martyr and inspire people to be better in the aftermath. He didn't foresee that Deadpool -- who hated his guts at the time -- would betray the X-Men because he actually believed in Cable's mission.

The utopian society came after the fact. The downfall came from some X-Men villains invading. Cable and Deadpool had to blow the island up because the computers had a lot of info on the future that couldn't get into enemy hands.

Grant Morrison did a similar thing in Batman Inc, iirc, as did Gillian (sp?) with Loki

Basically change is going to be incremental at best and usually gonna be wiped out anyway in the cycle of nostalgic fanwank.

In other news, I know this is a snyderdome thing but honestly it pissed me off so much I wanna share it elsewhere too

The secret is probably Snyder’s original film kinda blew because it was half his and half WB.

So now he’s gone back and fixed some stuff to make it really his vision.

That’s my guess.

Twitter is good for learning news that's happening in the country and around the world. Like one of the biggest general strikes in history happened in India last year and not a single news outlet picked it up - don't want the unwashed plebs in this country to get any ideas of rising up against their masters. I wouldn't have known of it unless Indian socialists magnified by their allies haven't tweeted about it and it ended up in my timeline.

It is. But at the same time, that Collider guy just had to admit he made a needlessly cruel joke in his apology IMMEDIATELY after he deleted the offending tweet. He waited until the next day, and just vomited out a non-apology directed at fans not getting his brand of humor or whatever instead of owning up to be being an insensitive piece of poo poo. No excuse for the personal attacks against him though, gently caress those people too.

Basically, the whole situation is just further proof a lot folk are really loving stupid and insensitive when it comes to dumb rear end cape movies.
