Try listening to the entire album, it'll sound way fresher sandwiched between Planet Caravan and Electric Funeral.

I've actually been just listening through albums straight through to the end of Sabotage the past few days while working and it's been p great.

The funniest cheesy Sabbath thing is how Ozzy creepily whispers "cocaine" in between verses on the album version of Snowblind, which is already like "hey hey do you get it!? See what I did there?", and then you listen to any live version of that song and he just hollers it out like Dr. Rockso.

My friends have a dog named Rosco and they call him Dr Rosco, so of course I call him Dr Rockso and say “he does cocaine” and nobody ever gets it.

My favorite Sabbath song is The Wizard because it’s just so happy. It’s about a wizard who wears funny clothes and brightens peoples’ day.

Throw in Children of the Grave, and that’s my top 3 right there. Ozzy-era Sabbath has way too many good bangers for that to be a fully locked in top 3, though. (Dio-era too, but that’s basically a different thread).

"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is typically number one with a bullet for me. After that, it varies depending on mood.

The intro to Children of the Grave is my go-to for getting horrible ear worms out of my head.

Also thanks to the person who mentioned Here Lies Man, I bought everything they put out including a couple test pressings :)

Black Sabbath top 3 is Paranoid, War Pigs, Planet Caravan.

Moon Duo do a real nice Kurangbin-esque cover that Im sure most of us have pop up on spotify by now.

I listened to the first four Sabbath albums heavily in university in the 90s, but I kinda deliberately held off on the rest. (I did the same with Pink Floyd.. didn't check them out until 2011. At the time, I was glad I waited, but looking back, it was 10 years ago holy poo poo!!!)

Is it time to break the seal of Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath?

Yes, and also Sabotage. Otherwise you're missing out on Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe.

e: It's really hard to pick just one best Sabbath song even if we're only talking Ozzy era. N.I.B. is a strong contender for me, but hearing Paranoid for the first time at 13 or something was like seeing colours for the first time after walking around my entire life in darkness.

After that, give the Dio records a chance. They're a bit different in terms of vibe but absolutely worth hearing.

Just ventured outside the first six with a listen through Technical Ecstasy and it's...not good.

Reading through the wikipedia article on it it's pretty clear how they were trying to break out and why there would be discontent within the band and mixed reviews.

Ingmar terdman
Jul 24, 2006

I won't say Technical Ecstasy is good but its half interesting. They salvaged Dirty Women from it in the reunion days and You Won't Change Me is like a beatle-ified Sabbath Bloody Sabbath track. Always reminds me of bands like Orchid and Blood Ceremony. Hipgnosis art too!

But then again I will defend Born Again in all of its blown out haunted house splendor

I like Black Sabbath.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.

Bongzilla's album comes out on 4/20 (like, whoa, crazy man, who'd have thought) but next Tuesday Feb. 2nd they'll premiere the first track and the art (which I did, I might have mentioned like a bunch in this thread but I'm a promotion whore sometimes :) )

Gonna be pretty bitchin. They'll be doing a signature guitar pedal soon as well as a separate EP with another notable S/D/S band

Unfortunately, there's been a really sad update. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKrLXw8pMI-/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Almost ordered a shirt anyways, but shipping to Canada is about as much as the shirt, so I went and did a donation of $4.20 to the rescue linked in that posting. I was still jonesing for a shirt, so I ordered an official Black Sabbath "Black Lives Matter" shirt - strange that shipping from the UK is less than shipping from the US&A. I plan on wearing it at worksites, and if anyone says anything, mention that it's official merchandise and ask why they hate Black Sabbath.

I finally got around to this album I found a few yrs ago while I was on vacation in Hawaii. Anywhere I go I usually do a google for '<Place name> Doom Metal' and while these guys aren't from Hawaii, they have a pretty interesting mix of doom and lapsteel/surf rock sounds.

and the cover art is loving awesome.

The new Celestial Season album was a nice surprise after their long hiatus. Even if their old school gothic strings-drenched doom meets stoner rock groove isn't the freshest thing out there, my built-in bias for the band basically skyrocketed the release to my top record of 2020.
