Quick question regarding okc and picks: in 2021 we got the heats first round unprotected i believe. So if the heat fuckin fade out then okc makes out with their lottery? Sorry I always get confused when I look at protected and unprotected picks and poo poo

Correct okc gets the heat pick regardless of where it is. HOWEVER let's say the heat squeeze their way back into the playoffs but the rockets get the 5th pick (top 4 protected pick swap) and okc gets 1st. Okc can give the rockets the heat pick and have 1st and 5th.

Surprised Jokic is #2, he's having an absolutely amazing year but I didn't think casual NBA fans would know who he is.

Fewer fans actually going to games this year (which is a sizable driver of votes because you can do so at the game), so I think online voting is a greater proportion of the fan vote this season. And the internet loving loves them some Jokic.

I wish they hadn't taken away online voting through google. Last season, it made it easy enough to vote every day.

Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets’ self-effacing MVP candidate, had just been asked to identify comparisons between his game and that of Lakers superstar LeBron James ahead of their first meeting of the season Thursday night in Los Angeles.

“The speed is there. We are the same athleticism,” Jokic said during a Zoom call Wednesday, moving his head in whatever direction would allow him to combat a smirk. “I don’t know if he can jump as high as me actually, but we are kind of similar. Quickness. He’s a little bit older, so I don’t know, can he keep up with the speed—?”

Finally, Jokic cracked, just before he added a final punctuation to the ruse.

“Oh my god, guys, he’s the best player in the league,” Jokic said.

Life, friends, is boring
I am listening to the Real Ones podcast and Raja Bell just told a story how Shaq, back in his Suns days, put Gordan Giricek in a chokehold and put him to sleep like 30 minutes before tip off. All in good fun!

1. announce zachary "zach" lavine from the chicago bullsmen has MADE the all star game
2. immediately cancel the all star game

The NBA really should make the playoffs happen in a bubble again. I don’t expect them to be better during the rest of the regular season but we don’t need to see series won and lost based on who got covid.

I think the only reasons Rick Carlisle hasn't been fired are he is head of the coaches union and Cuban's friend.

This Mavs season is pathetic and if Cuban keeps employing Donnie Nelson and Carlisle, they will eventually lose Luka. There is 0 reason to watch this team until some kind of change is made.

LOL at everyone that told me I was being ridiculous earlier in the season when I pointed out the Mavs looked lovely enough not to make the playoffs.

To date, Dallas's DRtg has been pretty close to last season's, but the ORtg is 6 points lower.

The first thing that jumps out to me is the overall 3P% of the team suffering. The lack of a Seth/Courtney Lee replacement might be a factor which implies roster construction is the main issue.
