Nice! There are so many online gaming everything going on out there and it is great to read about everybody's games where they're having a good time. I'm particularly interested to hear that there are new DMs still out there learning the ropes. I am probably going to buy a SMALL BOOKCASE this weekend, for all my various BOOKS, because I think the most effective solution right now is to go vertical but also have easily movable furniture since I'm going to have to move it all in 7 months or whatever anyway. I'm pumped for organizing books! Hell yeah!!!

In the meantime, I'm on the lookout for a 5e alternative to pivot over to while I wait for Shadow of the Weird Wizard to come out...

I have the LANCER book! This one is some kind of one-off custom thing from some woodworker in the area that is selling on Facebook Marketplace. That said, LANCER does fit on my Ikea Billy bookcase without too much difficulty:  I really do need to clean up this place somewhat but LANCER looks like it is roughly the same format as D&D books and other "reference manual" style books. Art & Arcana is the one that is, sadly, too mighty to stand on a shelf.

Pendragon is very different, not BRP-based at all. Uses d20s for most things IIRC. You've got "passions" that help determine how easily you can be led astray from knightly virtue, which is of course one of the main things you should be getting up to as an Arthurian knight. There's honor and glory and improving your manor and playing as your heir after you die. It's pretty great but requires a lot of player buy-in to sing.

My group is about 25-30 years into the GPC, though we're on a long hiatus while our GM runs a weekly LANCER game. A session of Pendragon is usually a full year of gameplay, unless Big Things are happening. A year usually involves a single adventure or historical battle, then moves into estate management, where you'll be constructing extensions to your holdings and trying to have as many kids as possible to inherit your Glory. The actual system plays pretty smoothly, it's just d20 roll under, with the interesting wrinkle that you can raise skills over 20, making it impossible to fail uncontested / un-penalised actions, and increasing your critical hit range (a crit is normally rolling your skill rating exactly, over 20 you start getting bonuses to your roll that make critting easier). It does a good job of directing the style of play and drama that Pendragon is based around, but there isn't a huge amount of depth to it, so our sessions would mostly devolve into It's Always Sunny in Logres.

Some of the years, at least in the 2nd era of the Great Pendragon Campaign are pretty sparse. I've enjoyed it other than that, but felt I had to dig around to find interesting plot hooks during a few recent sessions. Thankfully there is an absurd amount of Pendragon content to pull from. My players have really enjoyed the political maneuvering and self sabotage of some of the NPCs. It's pretty fun when not just the Player Knights are drama queens.

They all are enjoying roleplaying their characters as much as they are rolling dice during combat, and it's guilting me into making an extra effort into voices, accents and vocal tics. Exhausting, especially online, but it's fun!

I'm currently running a 4e game over roll20 in a homebrew setting where the players are part of the downtrodden masses living in the outlands and using jury-rigged magitech scavenged from the junk that the Guilds throw away. They've recently seized a source of the flangey magical substance that the Guild make magitech from and are planning on setting up business, selling it to the Guild, skimming some for their own experiments on the side, and running a casino town nearby to sell vice to Guildborn visitors.

If you’re going to play Pendragon, I’d have to recommend the Great Pendragon Campaign. Frankly, the Merely Adequate Pendragon Campaign cannot compare and I’m a little confused as to why they released them together.

That game ended up being a clusterfuck of 40 teenagers playing through the Dragon Heist module with 5 GMs, all in the same room simultaneously. I was only at two sessions of "The Nerd Herd", as they called it because it overlapped with my normal Saturday gaming. From what I hear, there were 6-8 GMs running the game every week and you just sat with whichever one suited your fancy that week, like a miniature Adventurer's Society. After each game the GMs would hang out for an extra hour, compare notes on what happened, and plan how far the next week would go. It worked great for the first five or so sessions until the kids leaned into being PCs. One group bought an inn, one group swindled the same inn until it went bankrupt and the owner got disappeared by the mob, and a third group befrended the innkeep and burned down a rival inn, all in the same session. The rest went and actually, y'know, did the adventure. After the game the GMs figured out what was canon (the inn that was bought ended up being canon only at that table, everything else got quietly dropped) but the kids from those tables told everyone else how much fun it was to do their own thing and the game descended into complete chaos. I think the whole thing lasted a total of fifteen sessions before they finished the module and swapped back to board games to give the GMs a break. Then COVID hit, so that was the end of that. They split up into smaller groups gaming over Slack, which is a whole lot more manageable, less stressful, and by all accounts somewhat less fun. I'm hoping they can pick it back up when they're allowed to have big groups again because I want to see how badly that group would stomp over something like Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

So I'm running a game for the forums, and I had a cool idea. If you are PLAYING in my game, don't click unless you want to see FORBIDDEN SECRETS. If you do click message me so I can set up a cool thing. So I'm balancing an end boss encounter for 4e, and I will be crossposting this in both threads. Right now, I'm planning to do an Extreme Level +5 fight with my group. I think they can handle it, because they have cleared Hard+3 and Hard+4 easily, and that was with very detrimental terrain and powers. I will be taking the 4 Captains they fought, (I have given each one a unique personality, and have made them all Liches of different kinds, so they are recurring via ressurection) and have them side with The Emperor. So it's going to be an insane amount of HP and help.. The Personalities of these captains are: Jessie and James from Pokemon, who are obsessed with body modification to create "High Fashion." A drug addict scientist who loves to make and get high on his own supply. A drama major, who sings and performs soliloquies mid match. The thing is, I've never done a fight this hard, it could be an absolute slaughter. I want to make sure that it's not unwinnable, while at the same time, if the party fails, I want to do a cool thing where everyone they've helped and all the powerful NPCs they met show up and transfer their energy to a cleric or a device or something that gives the group mass heal a few times to balance the odds in the opposite side. Maybe clears away some of the terrain by having the mass of the power lift them up to a cloud with beneficial terrain to them, refresh some dailies. Is the following encounter going to be good or a slaughter? (5 Level 8 Characters, Warlord healing, Rogue Striker, Sorcerer Striker, Monk / Avenger Striker, Druid Controller)     Boba Pearl fucked around with this message at 23:04 on Feb 6, 2021 |

You guys are much better at naming things than I am, my next plot arc of Monster of the Week is taking place at a renaissance/larp festival in Kentucky. The gimmick of the place is that it's not people dressed as elves/goblins/etc larping what it's like to be in Ye Olde World but is instead actually elves/goblins/etc doing a reenactment I need ideas for the various booths, performers, and foods that will be available

Also I got a new bookcase from some dude who makes commissioned furniture but just made this one from off-cut walnut panels on the carcass and birch for the shelves. The sizing was a little wonky but having racked up reminded me I have a lot of books and not everything is fully shelved, but having *more* of it shelved than not now is good (I was growing book mountains on multiple table surfaces for a bit). Having the inspirational stuff one head turn away instead of stacked into a table pile is nice!

Caren slammed the first result on Google which is for just a renaissance festival and they'll accidentally end up at the same one as the rest of the party. The villain of the piece is going to be a lich who is trying to get involved in local politics and take control. His phylactery is going to be at the bottom of an abandoned mine guarded by the ghosts of scab miners and the skeletons of strike breakers Edit: I do not believe in subtext

The stacking psy vuln and aoe restrain from the Fey are dangerous as well. It's a dangerous encounter for sure but who knows, my party managed to best encounters of similar strength in other games here e: Also the lack of defenders makes me think it's probably going to be a DPS race to see who murks the other side first.
