Toys That Made Us is a doc series on netflix that covers some of this, though it does veer into rose tinted nostalgia. The He-Man episode in particular is quite illuminating, though.

I watched that quite recently and it was a great watch! Kept meaning to go back to the rest of the series but never did. There's ones on Power Rangers, Professional Wrestling toys, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Worth a look for sure

Yeah, honestly that’s what put me onto the idea that there may be something better. I liked the subject of this doc (particularly the He-Man ep) but the Netflix house style for documentaries is just so unserious and condescending. Like they’re resentful of having to make this trash.

Christopher Plummer has died. After losing Max von Sydow last year we're rapidly running out of actors who have played old men for half their careers 😔

Christopher Plummer was the last of the living actors that played older guys in the 80s that I loved. Absolutely killed it in Sound of Music, what a hero. Knew it was coming but was so glad he kept going and kicking rear end, Knives Out was elevated by his presence. RIP to a great.

This one is kind of understandable because it's around Christmas and new year and a lot of channels marathon poo poo at that time. Probably because it's less work for the staff at those channels.

Schwarzwald posted:

Cable tv wouldn't be screaming towards obsolescence if it wasn't outrageously expensive. And if they're making you pay that loving much they should at least not bombard you with ads the way they do. Pick one or the other.

Analog cable ruled because you could just buy a bootleg cable box for 50 bucks from some sketchy weirdo and it unlocked everything including pay-per-view.

It's hilariously telling that when Zuckerberg wanted to debunk The Social Network's verisimilitude he pointed at him having been married during the events of the film as proof it isn't true to life, rather than, you know, the horrifying sociopathic worldview of the character. It's only become more obvious in time that the film captures a more or less accurate representation of the man.

It's unfortunate that anyone ever talks about a sequel. It's unnecessary. Everything about the current state of Facebook is still right there on screen.

I'm with feedmyleg on this one, there's no story left to tell. It's a character piece and we know everything we need to know about him at the end of the film.

But anyway I've never heard people saying there should be a sequel.

Maybe it's just reporters prodding and getting a stock answer, but I've read multiple stories about Sorkin considering writing one in light of the events post-release. I've also read multiple news stories that contain musings on "If they ever make a sequel, they should..."

They should do an Alien/Terminator thing where the sequel to The Social Network II is an action movie.

Alien 3 is probably the most interesting one of the directors cuts, because it's like a fan film. Like it's not James Cameron putting in poo poo that he originally cut because it didn't work out, it's the dork who put the collection together fastidiously trying to recreate the movie from some imaginary Vision from what Fincher said and wrote and what ended up on the cutting room floor, which is truly insane
