I like some of those restorations but that uploader kind of bugs me because they say stuff like "this gives us insight into what Koji Kondo originally intended" and I think it's really presumptuous to say that. What he intended is what comes out of the system, I don't think if given the chance he would've used those instruments completely unfiltered or occasionally added assloads of lovely sounding reverb for no reason. anyways in case i haven't linked this here yet here's a guy who did restorations in a similar way of the entire original DKC trilogy soundtracks, most of them are great: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKaTWjXt6tJ9S6K0YFJVEfQ/featured i think he's working on super metroid now but i haven't listened to those much yet

At the very least that mario paint one I linked sounds exactly like the original, just in 44khz instead of whatever weird sample rate the snes used. But yeah I wish most were like that

i always really liked the secret of evermore music, it's mostly ambient stuff but really well done. you'll go to a market and you hear voices of people shouting and chickens being sold and whatever, then you go into a house and it's the same sounds but kind of muffled, then you go into an open square and you hear the market sounds still in the background a bit but also the wind blowing over the floor tiles and echoes between the buildings on opposite sides of the square, stuff like that
