Thread ideas: - a thread for tabletop games oath posting for content creators, GMs, and so on (since a lotta people were making resolution posts about wanting to run more games this year) - a thread to talk about designing a bunch of wizard schools to use for setting mining - tg jokes thread - maps thread (battle maps, world maps, star maps, whatever) - resources and software reviews thread - vtt thread (on how to make vtt better / worse, funky API tools, and so on) - debate team thread series: limited run threads which are about debating one specific tradgames topic like “I think experience points are good/bad!” and people can sign up for forming up interesting arguments and counterpoints without getting so worked up people get probated - a “quick question, quick answer” thread

Stickied. Folks if you make a new thread, you can poast about it here and fax may probably get around to adding it to the OP at least for a while. My hope is that in addition to being a sandbox for talking about ideas for new threads, this can also serve as a reference/index to new stuff that otherwise tends to slip rapidly off the front page never to be seen again. We love our megathreads here in TG, many are nice and active, but as a result new stuff is easily missed.

Since there is a thread for thread ideas (this one), I'm also considering a thread for mostly system agnostic ideas sparring. There can be stuff in there for system specific stuff as well, but I am picturing things that could be interpreted and sparred out in different ways for different systems. The relative value of the ideas need not be particularly high either, mostly a thread to serve as an outlet for the 3:15am idea for orcs that ride player characters or waffles that give strength powerups.

Yesterday I was typing up a "roll or choose a Motivation for your character's reason for doing THE THING" table, specifically in this case because the players settled on "treasure hunting" for the adventure's theme and I want them to each have an in-character motivation (or two) for going treasure hunting. And I was thinking, hmm, this little six item list I just typed up, it's sharable, system-agnostic, fairly specific, too short to put up on drivethru even for like 99 cents, maybe there should be a thread for sharing stuff like this? Just random game aids, that are open enough that they don't (have to) go in a specific system's megathread, but too short to deserve their own thread, and not wanting to get lost in the chat thread.

I've recently been getting into the system via the Alien RPG and wanted to discuss the specifics of running it with more informed people.

An idea for a thread came up in the Chat thread: - A thread for music, sounds, and a library for those things. People are looking for cool inspirational war drums for their epic throw down on the Fields of Pelennor or whatever or just anything but the Lord of the Rings soundtrack on endless loop. I will maybe work on making one, or maybe someone else can make one? SOUNDS good to me

It's OK, but remember that we can't have posts in which we help people violate copyrights or trademarks or make counterfeit stuff. That might be a significant portion of minis 3d printing, but if we can keep it to like, terrain, homebrew minis, and so forth that'd be sweet.

True, there are definitely a lot of models available that are just characters movies and games they like. I'm not an expert on the copyright stuff but I know a bunch of people also make miniatures that are clearly intended to proxy as specific things. In general though I would think it should be doable to focus a thread on more generic uses for printing.

I would just like to know the basics and how to extend via the free non-pirated stuff or IP theft stuff. Like, if I wanted to print some parts to help with building terrain or sorting dice or pushing minis around on a table and other neat implementations like that, what all goes into doing the slices, post-print finishing process, and tips from someone who has already kinda gone through the headache. I would also assume that as long as that is kept in mind and if there is anything squicky there will be helping hands to guide in the right direction.

Oh yeah for sure that's all cool. Just, I loaded up Thingiverse the other day for the first time in a while and one of the first things I saw was a space marine. People have been making knockoff games workshop models since the very first 3d printers came out, pretty much. We'd need a thread rule about it, to remind people of where the line is drawn, and on SA that line is drawn at "don't even discuss how to make stuff that is someone else's IP, or link to places that explain that."

Would you consider sites like that off limits then? Personally my preferred site for miniatures is myminifactory, but still that site has stuff that is definitely copyrighted IPs.
