He was formerly the interim gm and a hold over from the old regime. No way he was going to stay long term, even if you ignore all the Mitch Miller stuff.

YOU'VE GOT A LAFRENIRE IN ME

Zodijackylite posted:

That was an entertaining gaffe by Rask.

Rangers seem unlucky, but the team also just isn't there yet, and we knew that going into the season. Kaako and Lafreniere are getting power play time and regular shifts, Miller has filled a huge hole as #1 LD, and the second year of the Fox/Lindgren pairing is continuing to mature and look like a big part of the team's future. They have an obvious hole at center that they need to fill, long-term, but they've also had a lot of role players step up this year. The defense also looks way better without JMFJ/Smith. I'll try to be patient for another year of growing, then another offseason of loading up. They're got almost nothing to lose in the expansion draft, at this point.

Yep it's a tough division and a young team and things aren't quite coming easy, but a lot of good things coming as well. Kakko has been looking real good lately but not yet getting rewarded on the scorecard. Somehow feels like Chytil being out hurt them a lot...probably because Zibanejad has been struggling and Strome kinda sucks and Howden sucks.
Hopefully will be a good growth year but the vets who aren't getting it done need to figure out how to get it done.

Hockey memoirs fall into two equally dull categories:

- I was a star and won a lot. It was it an honour to play in the best league on earth. I respected my coaches but sometimes got mad at them behind their back
- I was a journeyman and early on I played in some crappy arenas. Once I showed up to practice hungover. I respected my coaches but sometimes got mad at them behind their back.

Curtis Joseph's (Cujo) covers his, uh, unusual childhood and entry to the NHL and that part is worth reading. Unfortunately, the co-author seems to have done little more than lightly edited interview transcripts so it's not exactly an engaging read and the rest of his book on the pro career falls squarely into the first category. Then again, the first half also more or less matches the second category, so you could say that it covers both bases.

This... is actually pretty cool? I also didnt know that the first African-American NHL player was on the Sabres.

Edit:

Wajed landed on a design that paid homage to Val James, who became the first Black player born in the United States to appear in an NHL game when he made his Sabres debut on Nov. 1, 1981. He incorporated design elements from the NBA's Buffalo Braves and made reference to Breaking Barriers, the local organization that will benefit from sales of the T-shirt.

Robert Parish is a better basketball player than Marleau is a hockey player but fits the mold of a second tier star who never got hurt just stuck around forever. Career games in the NFL is gonna be like 10 different kickers.

For the NFL, it's mostly kickers and punters. The only guys in the top 10 who weren't strictly that were George Blanda (HOF played like 27 years, but his last 7~ as a kicker/back up QB), Jerry Rice (Every receiving record ever by a mile), and Brett Favre (Who did most of his consecutively & retired with most everything).

Chytil's still weeks away going by the original estimate I think. I suspect he got a broken arm or some bullshit.

No real update on Panarin other than he "tweaked" something and there's no practice today so we won't hear whether he's gonna play tomorrow until...tomorrow

It figures that was why Puljujarvi was held out of the morning skate, really hoping it's just inconclusive and he doesn't test positive because I don't want the Oilers to lose him for any amount of time.

How was this not part of their restrictions from the beginning? I mean, heres half the problem right here. Once it gets into the circle of players youre going to have a hard time stopping it fast enough if theyre asymptomatic. I dont think asking them to not see their family is good, but why are they not being required to stay at home when theyre not working? And then their family staying at home too. Its not like theyre going to go broke making this adjustment.
