Game is launched! With that, please see this thread with ANY LAUNCH ISSUES! https://www.reddit.com/r/outriders/comments/mh3etc/outriders_launch_info_known_issues_tracking/

Welcome to the Destiny game thread!!!!! Just kidding, this is the Outriders game thread. I'm serious. Just keep reading I typed a lot.

Outriders is a video game! It will have a release date and it will be playable! WAHOO!

Ok, really, let's get to the brass tax of this. It's been a long time and I'm going to effort this out of hope. Here goes nothin'.

Outriders is a story driven RPG-Shooter that will put the player in the shoes of an Outrider, the last hope of the human race trapped on Enoch, a dangerous and untamed planet. The campaign can be played entirely in single player, or in co-op with up to three players.

Outriders launches on April 1st, 2021 for the PC, Xboner, PS5 and Stadia and all those consoles and stuff. It'll be crossplay but no cross-save. It's a looter shooter. IT IS NOT GAMES AS A SERVICE (GaaS) with the drip fed content. Supposedly, what this game launches with is what you get.

It is made by People Can Fly and they did the noted cool game called Bulletstorm, which, honestly was a good game.

This is not very attention-grabby and as a gentleman with one of his beautiful degrees in journalism, I can step this up. Here goes [insert synonym for nothin' in the future here].

All the goon gamers in the world are here. There's an Outriders channel because I am excited for this game that EVEN I WILL GUARANTEE will not be good. But maybe, just maybe, if you wish upon a star, it will be. You're probably already in this discord. I love you all, despite being an absentee dad: https://discord.gg/aYumgUyNd9

DEMO

There will be a public demo on February 25th and that's why this thread is already up. The game originally was to launch for this time but they delayed it...twice (from December 2020 to February to April). That's a yikes, but that's what demos are for!

Details to come on what the demo entails but we do know:

Square Enix, a developer of video games with a 50/50 track record says:

quote:

Happy New Year. We believe it’s important that players get to experience a new IP like Outriders before release, so that you can decide for yourselves whether the game is something you wish to pre-order, purchase or play.

For this reason we’re excited to announce that on February 25th 2021 we will be publishing a free demo, giving everyone the chance to play the first few hours of the game with all four classes - in both single player and co-op – along with seamless migration of your character and progress to the full game.

I will see all your bright, smiling faces on 2/25/21, yes, all 10,000 of you, for demo. So we can either praise it or rip it to shreds. Please for the love of Santa be good. Hail Santa, if you're listening.

What in the blue heck and hell is Outriders for real though Mr. Icker?

I'm assuming you asked this question. Sorry if you actually didn't. It's rude to assume. Hear goes an FAQ:

quote:

When will Outriders be released?: April 1, 2021

What Platforms will Outriders release on?: Outriders will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (Steam & Epic). Outriders will be released on Stadia at a later date.

What kind of game is Outriders?: Outriders is a 1 to 3 player, drop-in-drop-out co-op, third-person-perspective shooter set in an original dark and desperate sci-fi universe.

Where can I watch the Outriders reveal trailer?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVlzMyPlKek. This is also on their official channel with plenty more in depth info on the game.

Is Outriders a Free-to-Play game?: No. Outriders will only require a one-off purchase of the game.

Is Outriders a Games-As-A-Service?: No - Outriders will be a complete experience out of the box. Thank god because I almost swore off gaming because of Anthem, Avengers and all the others that are bad. There's a couple good ones.

Will Outriders feature Micro-transactions?: No. However the preorder bonus will be able to be purchased separately. Save your money, friends.

Will Outriders support Smart Delivery on Xbox? Will we get a free upgrade to PlayStation 5?: Yes. Anyone who purchases the game for Xbox One or PlayStation 4, will get a free upgrade to Xbox One X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5 respectively.

Will Outriders support Cross-Play?: Yes. Outriders will Fully support cross-play, meaning you will be able to explore Enoch with any of your friends on any other platform. You can play Outriders from start to finish with your friends regardless of what system they own.

Will there be DLC?: At this time we don't know, if the game does well, hopefully we will see more of Enoch.

Will my PC be able to handle Outriders?: Yes, your PC will be ready. Just trust me. Thank you.

Can I play all classes?: Yes, you should have 6 character slots available.

Will I have to replay the story for each class?: Yes! You can play this until the game shuts down due to sales.

Does each class have multiple skills/powers?: Yes each class has 8 skills total. Only 3 can be equipped at one time.

Why can we only play in groups of 3?: PCF found that groups of 3 hit the sweet spot for balancing, optimization and visibility, especially with some much going on in battle. It's probably more so due to development time and cost and resources.

How does difficulty scaling work?: The game utilizes a world tier system. There are a total of 15 World tiers. In essence the more you kill, the longer you survive, the higher the world tier you unlock. Each world tier increases difficulty, but also your rewards. This can be adjusted up (to the max you have unlocked) and down at any point.

How does endgame work?: Endgame consists of 15 expeditions, all fresh content. In essence, get to the end as fast as you can on the highest difficulty you can for the most rewards. See more at https://youtu.be/PEOXZmuvmGc

What if I miss a loot drop?: There is an auto loot feature in game. Don't even bother picking it up as the United States Postal Service will deliver it to you at the end of missions and stuff.

Why don't enemies drop loot in expeditions?: They do. It all just goes to the chest at the end. PCF said this: Early tiers are a bit accelerated so if you maxed the world tiers you won't be stuck on content that is too easy for you but after that it's unlocking tier by tier. Guaranteed rewards improve with tiers and there are additional rewards for enemies you'll kill along the way, both can be boosted by tier based loot rarity modifier.

Essentially the higher you go the better efficiency you have so it's all about finding the sweet spot of time, survival and potential rewards.

Does that mean if I fail an expedition I don't get any loot?: No, you still get this loot even if you fail. Failure=Success my friends.

Can I transfer loot to another character?: Yes, there is a stash system.

How does crafting and mods work?: First off, there's crafting in this video game. It seems important. There's also mods, which seem more robust than I'm used to seeing. That's a plus! This is one of the first positives I saw in the game where, not being facetious, I started to feel decent about the loot system not being too basic. Learn more at: https://youtu.be/PEOXZmuvmGc at about 16 mins in.

Is there an in game achievement system?: The game will feature accolade system which is something in between achievements and battle pass. It will reward you for doing actions you would normally do in gameplay with small cosmetic rewards so if you need extra motivation to repeat few side quests and spend more time in the game here it is. The system will give only cosmetic rewards and there is no way to buy your progress, it is also completely optional but completionists can have nice fun with it.

How do armor stats work?: PCF said this about it: Alright so there is a couple of things to unpack.

First is the Armor Rating, the big number you see on all armors. It is based on the item level and item rarity, it's pretty simple for each rarity and level there is minimum and maximum value and a when item is created you get the value somewhere in between.

Next are the attributes, they are a bit more fun. An item can have up to three attributes but the exact number is based on rarity and level of an item. For example common item never has attributes, low level common and rare will have 1 attribute but they can have more on higher levels. The top attribute you'll see on the list is what we call primary attribute and it will always be either firepower bonus, anomaly power bonus or health, chosen randomly on item creation. Bellow primary attribute you get up to 2 secondary attributes randomly chosen from the list when item is created, there is just a few of them but enough to have some variations in the items.
The base value of each attribute is based on item level, there is no rolling here. However attributes on items levels of their own, up to 6. So an item at level 10 can give +100HP if attribute is level 1, but it will give 110HP at level 2 and so on. The level of an attribute is rolled on item creation.

At this time you can't change attributes on an item so of you want to have perfect combination you have to find perfect item, but you can level them up in crafting. When you scrap an item you get shards for one of it's attributes, which one is indicated by special icon. Then you can use that shards to level up same attribute on different item. However when you level up an item you'll loose some levels on the attributes, the values will remain more or less the same but because there is new possible maximum value to achieve the whole thing is shifting. This makes attribute leveling mostly end game activity but in my experience it can be helpful in some sections of mid game where you could use a bit of extra health but you don't want to respec your damage focused tree. Additionally if you invest in upgrading an attribute it will also get an icon so you can recover some shards when scrapping that item.

Legendary items are exception to some of this rules as both mods and attributes are premade by designers.

What weapons can we use?: From what we have seen you have Pistol side arms, and equip 2 primary weapons. So far we have seen Assault rifles, LMG's, Shotguns, Sub Machine guns and a variety of rifles including Snipers. PCF said there are more, but we have to play the video game, which is kinda like endgame for some of us...you know, to actually play the game. Hell, logging in is tough and a final boss for some of us.

Can I play the whole game solo?: Yes, the number of enemies etc scale depending on how many people are in your party. Expeditions are designed for 3 players, but should still be doable solo.

Is there PVP?: No. That is too spooky for people.

:ducksiren: Will there be in game comms? :ducksiren:

No - at this time there is no in built chat or ping system. This makes me furious. As a lover of bad things though, I'll continue the OP. This is what PCF said:

quote:

Thank you everyone for the discussion around this, it's always good to hear and listen to how different people feel about features like this.

We will not have in-game comms at launch and I can't promise that it would be added down the line, but I can say that we are listening to feedback, weighing up the most requested features post-launch and seeing what might be feasible.

Adding new features at any point of a game's development is tricky (and feature creep is a risk to be avoided, especially for a new IP) and will always introduce bugs that need to be resolved while maintaining a high standard of quality. We are currently at a place in development where we are focusing entirely on balancing and bug resolving. To add features at this point would mean risking a delay to the entire product.

Before moving on, I just want to mention that you will be able to turn crossplay off when playing Outriders and you will get matched only with players on your platform. So you will still be able to rely on your first party communications systems for those times.

That being said, I'd like to provide a bit more context around our decision not to support an in-game communications system at this time.

We first discussed in-game communications - both Text and VOIP - a few years back. Chronologically, this was before we made the decision to commit to supporting Crossplay. At the time, we felt that, given that strong first party communications systems were already in place (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam & Discord etc.), implementing our own system would be a bit like reinventing the wheel. So we decided to focus resources into game mechanics rather than such a (at the time redundant) system.

We made the decision to support Crossplay a while later, and it has taken a lot of hard work getting it set up. It's worth noting that, because Crossplay is relatively unexplored in the games industry, it is a learning process for what's important to players. I can absolutely see that, with players being on different platforms and first party systems not being usable between platforms, an ingame communications system would make a lot of sense.

However, on a development timeline, implementing Crossplay by itself a mammoth feat. Adding a communications system on top of this (or even by itself) adds a host of complexities that may not be immediately apparent.

Just from my own Community Manager perspective (which is just one of many others):

Any comms system should have robust reporting and anti-toxicity tools that would enable us to prevent griefers from ruining the game for other people. Furthermore, to review those reports and deal with them, we would need capture and review tech and we would need to maintain an extra team of staff just to stay on top of such reports. For a game that is not a live-service game, such running costs need to be carefully considered.

Personally, I have seen (and experienced) a few games where such anti-toxicity features were not in place to protect ingame communications and players, and it has actually led to levels of toxicity within the community that caused players to stop playing and leave the game (myself included!).

Just to wrap things up - We do know the value of communications. On a Community Level, we will be setting up numerous LFG text and voice channels on our official Discord server, and will also be reminding players of this within the game. These will likely be set up before the demo, but you can join the server now already. (discord.gg/Outriders).

Apologies for the long post, but I hope this will provide a little bit of background information around our thought process regarding ingame communications. As you hopefully can see, it's by no means a simple thing to add at this stage of development!

And just as a note: All the above applies on to our experience on Outriders and it is not necessarily indicative of Square Enix or PCF games in general.

Again, furious...but alas, the show goes on.

Will there be loadouts?: No, not at this time.

Will there be a transmog system?: No, not at this time.

Are there colourblind settings?: Yes, I believe so.

Do I have to be online to play?: Hell yeah you do, welcome to 2021 baby!!!!!

Is there a mass dismantle system in game?: Yes, but no in-game comms at all.

Is there an item protection system in game, such as item locking?: No. But there is mass item dismantling. I don't know. I just don't know.

Can I turn crossplay off?: Yes

Is there a social hub?: There are hubs in game. However, they will only be accessed by yourself and those within your matchmaking party. Oh, word Anthem friends??!?!

How does joining a friend work?: The game operates on a host based system. You join and play in the hosts world. Host migration systems should be in place if the host dc's. You can join any friend at any point once the prologue is complete.

How does scaling work when I join a friend?: As you are in the hosts game, you play at the level and world tier setting they are at. So you will either feel OP or under geared if you join low/high level friends retrospectively.

How does loot work in a friends game?: Loot is instance based for each player. Loot drops depending on enemy level, which is in turn based on world tier. So if you are joining friends playing on substantially lower or higher world tiers. Loot drops in essence won't be much use to you.

How will I invite cross play friends?: They have said they will utilize a friend code system.

Is there a cross save system?: Only between similar systems - eg Xbox one to Xbox series x, or PS4 to PS5. You will not be able to cross save between platforms, eg from Xbox to PC, or Xbox to PS.

So, there's some really scary stuff in there. Some cool stuff. But, yeah...demo gonna be important. OK, let's carry on so I can keep typing and pressing more buttons. Herre G-O nuthin:

THE CLASSES

I've recently re-kindled my love for wrestling again and immediately thought of Brian Cage "SURVIVE IF HE LETS YOU". This is this class.

Devastator is a close range class that's built to stand your ground. Take point and defend your allies. Ground and foes alike will tremble as you pass.

The Devastator can use Class Points to choose along three different class trees. However, the Devastator must first unlock the Devastator Class Trait. Then you can choose yo class and skills.

Destiny's Pyromancer escaped the Last City to enter Enoch, and also doing this, left the entire Destiny universe to come to the Outriders universe. Unbelievable to see and very ground-breaking.

Pyromancer is a medium range class that can control fire. Cover foes in flames, incinerate entire squads and heal your own wounds as enemies fall to your inferno.

The Pyromancer can use Class Points to choose along three different class trees. However, the Pyromancer must first unlock the Pyromancer Class Trait.

Pyromancer Class Trait: Grant 15% max health bonus and 10% ability power bonus. Additionally, skills Mark damaged enemies for 15 seconds. Killing a Marked enemy earns 24% healing.

Don't quote me on this, but The Technomancer released on Steam and PC back in 2018. Was a really good game. The game makes its return to Outriders on April 1, 2021 as a playable character.

The Technomancer is a long-range support specialist that possesses the best healing abilities of all four classes. It also utilizes a wide range of deadly contraptions.

The Technomancer can use Class Points to choose along three different class trees. However, the Technomancer must first unlock the Technomancer Class Trait.

Technomancer Class Trait: Increase long range weapon damage by 7.5%. Increase skill life leech by 15%. Increase weapon life leech by 15%.

Low effort editing on my end on that one :)

Warframe's very own Trickster enters the battlefield and I'll be honest, I'm not seeing anything tricky here at all. It's got a sword. It's very blue. I got to learn more here.

Trickster is a close range class that's fast and can easily hit & run targets. Bend the laws of space & time to appear out of nowhere, assassinate your enemies, and return to safety in the blink of an eye.

The Trickster can use Class Points to choose along three different class trees. However, the Trickster must first unlock the Trickster Class Trait.

Trickster Class Trait: When Shield is active, gain 15% damage mitigation. Heal player for 20% of max health and gain 12% shield for each enemy that died at Close Range.

OK, now that you have seen the classes who are all from other games and genres of life, here's more info to wet your whistle. Hr gs nthn:

Loot looks like this:

Not gonna lie, those look cool.

World Tiers look like this: All the way up to 15, which reward Legendary items.

These are the expeditions:

They go like this:

quote:

Expeditions are high-end missions available after completing the main campaign. These challenges pit you against the fiercest and most brutal adversaries Enoch has to offer. These are big, hand-crafted new levels that do not recycle content from the main game, featuring unique mechanics and challenges.

Mysterious points of interest have appeared across the world, with new stories to be discovered at each one. They also contain precious resources, allowing for even more powerful gear. There are 15 locations to explore, and completing all of them grants access to the final expedition, the Eye of the Storm.

Difficulty scales as you progress through different challenge tiers which raise enemy and loot levels. Tiers are needed for two things: determine the difficulty of a mission, and to unlock new locations.

The faster you clear a mission, the richer the rewards. Individual enemies do not drop loot on the ground though, but instead it is all received at the end of the expedition if you complete it. Loot is instanced for each player.

List of expeditions

Archways of Enoch
Boom Town
Chem Plant
Eye of the Storm
Frontline
Heart of the Wild
Marshland Caverns
Mountain Outpost
Stargrave

Hunts are like this:

quote:

Hunts

These side quests have you, and optional co-op teammates, track and eliminate monsters in the world of Enoch. Hunts are found while exploring combat zones when you discover a half-eaten carcass. At this point you are able to start the hunt and begin tracking the monster.

Different monsters are found in different areas. There are three types of hunts in the game. Each hunt is like a side quest with rewards. There are also additional rewards for completing all the hunts of each type and Accolades with rewards as well.

Hunts

Hunter - Bigjaw
Hunter - Moldfang
Hunter - Oreyard Queen

With all that said, there's a lot of stuff that has still not been revealed. I am so excited for Anthem 2.0utriders and it is going to be a lot of fun. Real talk, I hope this is fun and good. I would love that. But, keep the caution flag up high. It deserves to be VERY high.

Last thing I'll post are some videos and screens maybe because those are fun:

This is an external studio title that SE is publishing, avengers is a case of SE getting the marvel license and putting impossible expectations on it. Feel it's worth mentioning that Sleeping Dogs was the same kind of thing.

I don't look at ICR enthusiasm as a kiss of death, it's more the canary in the coal mine. If a game looked promising to you and the sun god himself descends form the heavens to do a full on tryhard OP for it, you need to stop and reasses.

In this case, I'd say just do what a bunch of us are planning to do and just play the beta for free and make your own call.
