EVE is a bloated, unoptimized mess of a mod. It does make VFX for lasers and plasma look pretty and more flashy, but it also does things like make NPCs puke when hit by a pulse gun.

If you want to use it, I would spend some time with the GECK & FNVEdit to strip all of the dumb poo poo out. Or maybe look at EXE https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62989

As regarding mod listings, mine is pretty janky because it keeps resorting it alphabetically. I built my load order not too long ago, so these are the mods that I'm using that isn't in Viva New Vegas:

Sortomatic ( For Afterschool Special )
Afterschool Special - A housing mod with a small quest to get together that I'm trying out
Lombard Station - Another Housing Mod, this one Goon Built and Approved.
Bottle That Water
Pickable Pinyon Nuts - Adds Pinyon Nut Trees
Craft Lunchbox Recipe
Jsawyer - orginal flavor
Nuka-Cola Collection

And Hunting Reimaged. = D

Freeside Review is pretty rad. I don't think I've found any of the changes to be too egregious, except maybe the player home. It's small, but why can I waltz into Freeside and immediately enter "Player Home"?

Bar called MOE is actually pretty adorable. I like the tunnel going into the bank. If it was a bit harder to get into it'd be neat if there were phat stacks of Pre-War Money in there.

Only real disappointment I have is that it's very obviously unfinished, being full of "What do you need?" NPCs. Dude clearly has ambition, hope the mod doesn't fall apart under its own weight.

Current wisdom is to use Stewie's Tweaks (again), there's some bits in the configuration to do with autosaving. I think it fixes vanilla save behavior in general?

Got any deathsticks?
Tammer's outfit mod got updated and I got a chuckle out of one of their new armour descriptions:

quote:

Dominator Armor NEW!
Grants +1 Strength, +10 Unarmed damage, and +10 Melee damage, at the cost of -2 Charisma.
Weight: 25, DR: 0, DT: 10
Medium Armor, repaired with Scribe Robes

This outfit was designed for Couriers who enjoy joining objectively-evil, fascist paramilitary organizations and want everyone to be able to see from a mile away what a fragile, belligerent, toxic rear end in a top hat they are -- Couriers who may already have a goatee and sunglasses, but lacking a blacked-out pickup truck adorned with Punisher decals in which to record videos crying about "the Libs", have no other way to project their whiny small-dick snowflake energy. Well, why not compensate by wearing armor made up of elements taken from all the most badass and powerful undefeated factions in the Wasteland? This armor was made using the cape from the Legion Praetorian armor ("Legion women know their place!"), the pants and boots from the Enclave Officer outfit ("Eden is still your president!"), the pauldron from the Remnants Power Armor ("The Enclave will rise again!"), the Brotherhood Elder's robe ("Human lives matter!"), and Liberty Prime's forearms ("Muh freedums!").

I managed to fix an issue that's been bugging me for dozens of hours now.

If for some reason corpses flip the gently caress out and fly randomly whenever you load a zone, sink into the ground or similar annoying poo poo, just change 'bAutomaticFPSFix=1' on NVTF.ini to 0. Not sure why it was screwing everything over, I thought it was the Ragdolls mod that did it.

Fair warning, when I used this mod with the save tweaks enabled I started getting regular crashes that persisted until I turned them back off.

Granted, this was back in October and obviously the rest of the mod works just fine. Just a heads up.

Main reason I picked it for my run and why VNV has added it now is due to compatibility with other mods. The changelog does a good job of making it clear what changes are rope kid's originals, ones which the modder has added in, and tweaks to the originals, so combing through with xEdit to make your own patch isn't too difficult. Patch I linked is case in point.

Encumbrance chat: I finally realised inventory management isn't fun. My max carryweight is 1000 now. I wanted to use lStewie to make everything except weapons and armour weightless but setting it crashed the game for me. I am completely insane and play this game in Linux (i use arch btw :smuggo:) so that probably had something to do with it.

So I am having a really weird issue with NVSE suddenly

I did a fresh install, genned my ini files, tossed NVSE in and started up the game to make sure poo poo worked and...NVSE just opens a small window in the corner with a black screen and does nothing at all. Game starts up fine through vanilla methods, it's just NVSE doing this.

Have you run the 4GB patcher? It does stuff, things, and stuff to make sure the game always launches with NVSE and large address awareness. I had a similar issue to yours until I ran that. Might help, might not.

I'm on the fence about inventory management. It makes sense in games where you're not able to just go back and pick up the poo poo you left behind easily, makes all the stuff you leave behind have a lasting impact.

New Vegas is a bit too peaceful of a world for the survival/inventory planning aspect to really shine, and with fast travel it really just becomes busywork after the beginning of the game.

I think it works on games like STALKER and FO4 Survival because the world is loving brutal and every WG that you spend on ammo or medicine is one that you can't spend on stuff that could get you better equipment. Still, even in those the inventory management just becomes annoying later in the game.

but it still feels like cheating to modav it away.

Nobody Interesting

That's just it. I don't see Fallout as a survival game, it just isn't balanced that way.

There's elements of hardcore that I like. I like that combat's harder so I'm not immediately becoming a Bethesda Game God, and the hardcore needs give purpose to a whole world of items that are otherwise more or less pointless - stimpaks and sarsparilla are plentiful enough to make it so I don't need to eat food or drink water in non-hardcore.

But while that mechanic, for me, adds an extra dimension to the game, inventory management just...doesn't. modav is definitely cheating but I can't think of a better solution. It'd be handy if weapons and armour had weight, because at least then I'd have to consider my loadout, but until lStewie starts working for me (or I stop being stupid and just play on Windows) I don't know what else to do

Proletarian Mango

I think like Fallout hits just the right balance. Your inventory is limited but not so much so that it feels like a burden you're constantly having to micromanage. I feel like having an unlimited inventory with a need to offload unwanted items at a vendor feels incongruous. Like, with a vendor system there's an implication of a scarcity of resources in the world that you the player have to overcome by shopping at a vendor to get said resources, and having to trade items you do have for the things you want can be a difficult decision in choosing what stays and what goes when your carrying capacity is limited because then you're having to choose between an item's use as a item and it's use as currency. It's can be very effective in creating a sense of survival, even in non-survival games if the atmosphere of the game benefits from it. With an unlimited inventory there's no need to worry about what stays and what goes in-between trips to the vendor since you can hoover everything up. I think if you go the unlimited inventory route then I think it should be taken to it's logical conclusion and just have vendor items automatically converted into useable resources/currency for the player upon pickup. You could even take that one step further and cut out the vendor items altogether and just have all pickups either be something the player can absolutely use or straight cash that is used to buy items that can be used by the player.

e: gently caress it, replace all items with floating weapon/health/armor pickups like in quake 3. looting it tedious imo
