Jesus! Jesus Christ! Say his name! Jesus! Jesus! Come down now!

In theory, encumbrance concerns can make a game more interesting. In practice they aren't, and I give in to my hoarding tendencies. One of the reasons that I tend to flame out on latter Fallouts in the late going is because I develop a rapidly tightening cycle of finding new junk to carry and figuring out what of the dozens and dozens of aid and junk items I don't need I'm willing to give up. I find Fallout 4 an easier kind of packrat game to appreciate because the crafting system is not quite as particular, any given "ingredient" can generally be used for a multitude of things.

I think how much I can stand weighted ammo is going to come down to how many times I have to shoot something for it to die. I played a FO2 mod way back in the day that reduced all the magazine sizes for everything to 1, so you were finding one bullet at a time (and could carry WAY less ammo as a result, since it weighed 1 unit each round). It would have been tedious except that it also made guns incredibly powerful so you basically never had to shoot anything more than twice.

The original Van Buren design was, iirc, more heavily "Mad Max" in that regard (at least in one permutation). Guns were meant to be really scarce and really powerful and people would use crossbows or the like instead.

Mass Effect 3 ain't great in a lot of ways but I thought its approach to encumbrance was probably the most effective conception of encumbrance I've yet seen that isn't "keep below a number or you walk real slow", or even "keep below a number or you'll hurt your legs".

Weighted ammo is great because I love going back to my home and gearing up, crafting the right amount of match ammo and cleaning up my inventory before I go out on a quest. Same goes for the weight of guns and armour

Same. I love Inventory management, managing my health, food, water, sleep, everything. I think Fallout New Vegas introducing survival gameplay elements was brilliant and should have been in the series from the start. I mean the series is all about trying to survive and thrive in the post-apocalypse. I can't believe it took them 6 games until they added eating/drinking/sleeping mechanics.

I never play NV without the JSawyer mod these days

To be fair, the first and ESPECIALLY the second games take place in a massively larger area.

Dark souls system of just the 2 weapons you could switch between and whatever armor you're wearing affected movement and you could carry as much of everything else as you wanted was pretty good, but also reliant on not pausing while in inventory to really work.

It's dope as hell, nothing like heading to Lombard station when you've decided it's time to clear out the quarry or the brotherhood. Finally getting a chance to use all the Plasma grenades and 50.BMG you've been hoarding

yeah, Fallout 4 made that much simpler, in a good way.

New Vegas did this pretty well with ammo crafting(dozens of ammo types broken down into relatively few components) but it can get obnoxious with its cooking and crafting recipes. I pretty much only memorize the stuff I need for weapon repair kits and ignore all the other junk, even though I'm sure it has its uses.

Being the modding thread, wish someone made a mod where you could tag recipes you want to track and then marked related items when you found them in inventories. This way I won't have to literally write down that I also need a forceps to make doctor's bags and such.

Clearing the BoS bunker is when I dust off all the C4 I found. Place charges in key locations in floors 1 and 2, activate the self destruct, use the detonator and just see the XP rise.

Have any of you folks recently played with either The Living Desert or Mojave Wildlife? I'm still tinkering with my modlist [s]because modding is the game[s] before I actually start up. Mostly added stuff on top of Viva New Vegas like "why was this not in the game?" like Missing Ammo Recipes and Food Scraps which returns an empty bottle when you drink a Nuka-Cola.

Living desert is good. If you use it in conjunction with NV bounties be warned the entire area around vegas is absolutely swarmed with fiends. I had to have killed at least fifty on my trip to the clinic

I've seen a similar mod in action before (not exactly the same, but when you look at an item included in crafting recipes, they're shown on screen), but unfortunately I don't know the name.

I kinda feel like outer worlds being so underwhelming was bc people liked the political depth of NV so much they projected it to all the good fallouts, when looking back fallout 1, while well written, didn’t really have much more depth to its politics than your standard post apocalyptic setting. So simple both sides type stuff we probably should have expected from the fallout 1 writers. Though I never got too far into the game and if all the writing was poo poo and not just the world building than I’m probably in the wrong here

e: i expected it to be like nv because "from the creators of fallout and fallout: new vegas" was literally prominently featured in advertising and sets certain kinds of expectations

I wouldn't say there is much of politics in F1, since F1 is mostly about civilization just crawling back from the abyss that was the Great War. You do have some political corruption going on in the Hub that you can sort out, Adytum is being run by "The Regulators", who are basically holding the city hostage by scaring them into submission with imaginary outside threats, and of course "The Master" and his Unity are trying to unify all the Wastes by making everyone Super Mutants.

Any of you know if there’s somewhere to get mirrors of the mods on the ttw site? I had been planning to try out the ttw version of Powered Power Armor but the mod maker removed it bc of compatibility issues with the current version. Which wouldn’t be an issue if he also made a fixed version, which he didn’t, which means I’m stuck with the 2011 vanilla NV version

Hey there's a typo in this. Gecko Omelet is shown as "GeckoOmelet" and Boiled Mantis Egg also shows up as "BoiledMantisEgg". I think I might have a thought on recipe balance too but Im gonna sit on that a minute longer. Cool little mod, tho.

Another apparent bug: Broc Flower Tea doesn't have any listed effects in the recipe menu, and when crafted it seemingly disappears into the ether as the item does not appear in my iventory.

Is Freeside Open alright? I used it back in the day, but I've read everywhere that it hasn't aged well at all (and I remember it being kind of screwy back in the day).
I've never had a problem with Strip Open but from what I understand getting rid of that wall was a pretty easy fix and it doesn't really change much, unlike mashing together the two Freeside cells.

Gaius Marius

I'd recommend against both modes personally, so drastically changing cells with that many NPC's and quests is almost certain to cause problems, especially if you start adding mods on top. You end up racing the clock to beat the game before poo poo goes wrong.

I did fix the Broc Flower Tea not outputting anything when made, but not the spelling errors. I will fix that right away.

And if you do have an idea about recipe balance let me know. It is supposed to be balanced, but IDK how well I succeeded.

I heard they conflict heavily with quest mods, but I don't ever use those so it doesn't matter. If you had to only pick one, Strip Open feels more important to me, those walls are awful.

I installed this mod to try and make the casino music less Jingle Jangle Jingle all the fuckn time, but realised it sucked because I don't see why The Kings would be broadcasting the news out of their pad. So I tried loving with it to get it to play Mojave Music Radio instead which is expanded with MMRE. The end result is that I now have no music in Freeside or The Strip with or without the mod enabled!
