Bill and Ted 3 is a really good concept for a script that doesn’t measure up in execution. The movie has a few really good jokes (and a lot of pretty bad ones,) and the performances by Bill and Ted Jr are wonderful.

I don't know if I can judge it fairly, because it clearly is a love letter to those 2 other movies and the characters and what they represent to the fans. It is a movie that it really would not exist if it wasn't for people who loved the first 2 movies that much, so I can forgive it if it isn't that great technically, I still love it.

Edit: Plus, if there's a movie or a TV show with a positive attitude and message, I'm way more lenient of it after the bullshit years we've had.

Time for a little robot chauvinism!

It's probably more important that you've seen Bill & Ted 2 before watching Face the Music than it is having seen the first one. I dunno why you would skip ahead though, the third is basically a For the Fans deal.

Plus, Bogus Journey is like one of the easiest movies to watch ever. Just a smooth, fun 90 minutes you can just throw on anytime.

That'd make for a really good movie if it wasn't too sensationalist and did proper research.

Maybe in another 10-15 years tho.

It's also that she said the dumb thing and then promptly set to work making sure she looked as bad as possible in the aftermath: Blocking everyone who gave even the most polite pushback or disagreement, trying to use social justice language to claim she was being uniquely victimized and accusing PoC of siding with the mob of white men who are surely behind this, trying to get a college kid expelled for mild trolling. I'm sure she got plenty of abusive comments in her mentions but most of the people I saw were just saying "lol this is a dumb rear end take" and a number of people just praising old movies and encouraging people to seek them out.

I don't know if she's just not in a great place at the moment that exacerbated this or whatnot but she kept digging the hole as deep as it would go.

The Fisherman by John Langan is a good book.

I'm about halfway through it and it just keeps slowly adding more and more disturbing cosmic horror into what starts out as a fairly basic story about a middle aged widower who likes to go fishing.

Two of my favorite theaters just announced they're permanently closing. I'm actually pretty upset about it. Picture Show was doomed since it's in a mall that they just announced is being demotivated demolished soon, but it was a cozy place for movies.

Studio Movie Grill was amazing for date nights with my girlfriend, and they played excellent classics regularly. I was planning on going at least once a week before COVID happened.

Not to mention that a theater barely a mile away from me was being constructed a year ago in an old Toys R Us, which has been cancelled. Going to the movies feels like something I did in another lifetime now.

The only way I'm able to make social media function without going crazy revolves around a couple things:

1) Install an adblocker of some sort.
2) Never ever ever ever ever post personal information. Focus solely on your interests, which should mostly be pictures of your pet.
3) Only follow people you know in real life that you like to surround yourself with.
4) Turn off all forms of retweeting from everyone.

It's not perfect, but it really helps separate all the dumb bullshit you wanna see from the dumb bullshit you don't.

Late to the game, but my thoughts on the whole old movies thing....

There's plenty of mediocre or outright bad movies that are simply not worth one's time over a vast amount of more worthwhile ones.

What I have an issue with is crap like "I won't watch movies made before 1975" or "old movies are racist/sexist" because it's lazy. Even more idiotic when it's coming from a writer or even more confounding, a filmmaker. It means that they didn't bother to look any further than the surface level. Don't be afraid to look to enthusiasts or other filmmakers. The insinuation that only rich film students care is outright insulting because I got into classic film on my own in my early teens and went to a state university.

The worst part of it is trying to close doors before their even open. I wonder if Lexi Alexander is even aware of films by the likes of Lois Weber, Oscar Micheaux, or Dorothy Arzner? What about the deceptively feminist and antiracist takes in films through the 30s and 40s? Can you really say that there's not even any Chaplin films worth seeing?

It's just hard to believe that out of tens of thousands of movies that there's hardly any worth seeing in the 21st century. And really, coming from a filmmaker, it's worth saying that someday films from the last 20 years will be consider antiques. Would any filmmaker today insist on their own work being pointless and not worth seeing? Doubtful.

I think the plethora of different television channels and other media outlets has meant there's a lot of content starring minorities that a lot of people just never hear about if they aren't looking for it. For example Ava DuVernay has a show with 4 or 5 seasons on Oprah's channel that I never hear anyone talk about and I only know exists because I follow her on twitter so she'll mention when a new season is starting.
