It always seemed like a big part of that was due to how cavalier Lowtax was running the site and the modmins having to basically work around what he wanted to keep their power/authority. Koala's March bragging about being able to call Lowtax and get him to do something is a pretty good indication that he was seen as someone who would create a massive shitstorm at the drop of a hat if roused and they all wanted to avoid that. The consequence of that seemed to below a laxity in certain areas that led to some marginalized posters to claim(whether correctly or not)they were being harassed and gather a significant chunk of support for themselves. As if evident from here and literally anywhere else this stuff happens there's always some grifters willing to jump in and cultivate an environment to enrich themselves. It's not like the matter was suddenly fixed there's like bimonthly QCS blow ups over some issue or another that without fail will be used by the same bad faith people to try and re-litigate the events. It doesn't help that a big chunk of all of this depends on the ability to believe what people say, because that exact mentality is then used as a cudgel against posting enemies as "well I choose to believe what X said" whenever they feel their side is attacked.
