Whilst I don't remember the specifics, (sorry), my favourite IPL wasting money story is that in one of the early IPLs, Cameron White gets bought for a lot of money, I remember it being something around $700,000 Australian. But then doesn't play a single game. He was fit, he was over there, they just didn't pick him in the side. So he got paid high 6 figures to go on a month and a half long holiday in India accommodation and flights paid, staying in nice hotels.
