I find it amazing that WW2 and the horrors that far-right thought, facism, and so on eventually lead to aren't even out of living memory and people (especially when that person is presumably a Jew) are rushing to embrace it all over again. You think it's anymore more acceptable when the targets are Palestinians than when it was the Jews? gently caress you, Hellbeard.

Also your goblins are boring, your shading sucks, your women look the same, and the middle-aged mutant ninja turtle looked like he was wearing s bad sweater rather than having a shell.

Yo Hellbeard I'm happy you embraced fascism but I think all the excessive labels are doing your cartoon a disservice. The same message comes across even without labels:

Yeah. Trying to do some sort of follow-up or companion piece to it. Was originally thinking the shrimp's freakshow, but I could always recycle the title and make a small series with different circus themes.

I'm happy my drawing provokes a strong reaction.
The criticism that you and others held back until now, is useful to me. It gives me another perspective on how my work is perceived.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

The concept of the cartoon is that the political landscape is skewed to the left and I will vote for the most right wing party because I want to shift the whole mechanism, not that I agree with the particular party.

On some ideas I'm more left than they are, on some more right but the overall trend I want to advance is right.

If you don't like it and think I support an "oppressive regime"- here is your medal: :bananacoin: .

I hate to break it to you but that's not how politics works in the slightest. You can't "balance" society by voting for fascists because fascism isn't the political fringe but in fact large entrenched power structures that are losing their minds trying to preserve their own money/power/privilege as the need for reform becomes increasingly more apparent. Basically your seesaw is weighted backwards (and also LOL at Bibi being in the center but w/e) so your attempts to even things out are actually quite counterproductive.

Also please don't bring lovely right wing politics into the art forum, it's killing the vibe.

I'm trying to actually learn how to paint. I'm doing a lesson on values and it's pretty hard! These went as well as any others I did, but obviously still not great. If anyone has any feedback on how to get better at seeing and understanding values (other than just keep doing exercises), I'm open to it! Also this was just supposed to be quick values blocking, I didn't try to pay attention to perspective at all, so some of these are a bit wonky.

I have some suggestions!

The first thing I would say is that, in terms of representational painting, Value and Light are inextricably connected concepts. Value tells us where the light is and isn't, so by studying how light works in the natural world, we can get a better appreciation for value, and train our eyes to better see these relationships.

I think all your reference images are not particularly good fodder for value or light study. The outdoor scenes in particular have a kind of extreme exposure with blown out lights and crushed blacks, and in general I think outdoor scenes with natural light, or portraiture with really subtle diffuse light, are deceptively complex and not what I would recommend for first stabs at tackling foundational concepts. There's just a whole lot of extra stuff going that is going to make focusing on the light/value relationships harder.

What I would recommend is trying an *extremely* simple still life setup, with a single directional light source cast on a single simple object. Think a desk lamp pointed at an egg from above and to the side, or something comparable. Do a study of it and spend some quality time really trying to exactly get the value relationships right (which areas are darkest, medium, lightest value). I promise that you will learn a thing or two about values in the course of trying to replicate the way light and shadow interacts on a small scale, and you can build from there.

I've linked this proko video before but I think it's a solid primer on how to begin understanding the "rules" of light and how it affects perceived value: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3WmrWUEIJo

I've never designed a patch before. I'm open to any feedback or suggestions

I assume it'll be embroidered. Color-wise for that process it looks good. Embroidery machines don't generally handle gradients very well. I only have a basic knowledge of how home embroidery machines work based off secondhand knowledge from my mother though. Commercial embroidery may be entirely different. It's probably a good idea to get in touch with whoever will be making the physical patch and find out what the specific requirements/weird design issues they encounter are.

Have a critique. There's some visual tension where the characters overlap the design elements. Specifically the sword and the outer border stand out and my eye keeps being drawn to that point. It could work within an embroidered patch though due to the somewhat 3 dimensional nature of the borders. I also start to lose the fuel tank or whatever it is in the vehicle due to the color similarity between it and the border it intersects with. It looks really solid and good though.

Doing some more work on the aerialist shrimp circus piece. Working on the tertiary background aerialist specifically and I'm not really sure what the hell I should do with the bottom legs (we'll call 2 of em arms cuz they have claws). Doing some iterative sketches to figure that out and playing around with fonts to see if I want to change it for this poster.

Edit: figured it out. The scale is off, but I'm happy and it reads well enough.
