Imagine four 'mechs waiting in a queue. Time works the same way.
It is not even a good factor when there are enough units.

There are enough units.

Yeah FE is like the faceroll MP build for Brets right now and she's only more absurd in the campaign. Honestly probably shouldn't be a small, melee capable Mortis Engine the way she is, but if you took that away from her she'd kinda suck real bad so shrug

She's my go to for cleansing Athel Loren in my games because you can just scrum up a bunch of poo poo around her and smash through anything the welves throw at you, it's hilarious. Yes I am aware the Fey Enchantress burning down the great oak is the peak of "what" in this universe.

I wasn't talking about any one specific race. I just wanted to give context that while the number of units does have a weak relationship to how "generalist" a faction is perceived, it's not the only factor. Tomb Kings are very low on the list but very flexible, while Lizardmen are quite high but have noteworthy weaknesses. I know this will sound controversial (/s), but it turns out that what the units are matters a lot more than how many units there are. There are plenty of toys that can be given out to a faction without compromising their primary strengths or weaknesses.

Ultimately I think that claiming that CA will run out of possible new units for any given faction because "it'll ruin their identity!" is absurd. Bretonnia isn't some special snowflake here; I don't see anyone claiming that a new Dwarf DLC would have to add cavalry or that the Vampire Counts would need to get archers since each those factions have run out of development space. Could it happen? I mean sure I guess if every race had 100 units. Is it likely within what's reasonable to actually occur? Not a chance.

You can get like 6 of them max per campaign if you go all-in on them and are a neat little gimmick to add some flavor to some of the Bloodline lords, and that's about it. If you could produce them at will, I'd probably dislike them.

Probably not but they'd be easy to implement. If you're trying to differentiate campaigns without unique mechanics or drastic UI overhauls, having partial rosters is the way to go. I can understand the thinking from CA's side.

Exactly. It's even less impactful than, say, Aranessa Saltspite's living units. It's a small little campaign exclusive throwaway option, not something that's relevant to MP or even the majority of SP games. Can the AI even recruit them?

Psycho Landlord

They can, technically, but how the AI handles bloodline mechanics is a bit of a crapshoot so it's very rare. I have run into a few units of them before though, mainly in Empire games.

this take is really interesting to me, because it means GW thinks that knights with trebuchets is more culturally accessible than orks and elves. i seriously doubt that is still true since the LOTR craze. i am 100% certain that more people know what an orc is than know what a trebuchet is.
[/quote]

The thing about accessibility is that you aren't looking for "the single most accessible choice" (whatever that is) if you're doing accessibility right. You're looking at a range of approaches that helps the widest range of people. Most people would rather walk up stairs than a slope and they are a lot less dangerous for most people e.g. when it gets icy - but we put wheelchair ramps in as well as rather than instead of stairs because multiple options cover more people. Likewise Bretonnia; it's not that knights with trebuchets are more culturally accessible overall than orcs and elves - it's that there exist some people for whom it's more accessible but for those who find orcs and elves more accessible we already have greenskins and three varieties of elf.

the thing that's weird to me is that Bretonnia does not feel like a beginner's faction, at least it wasn't for me as a beginner. Cycling cavalry charges took me awhile to figure out how to do effectively. I had a much easier time with HElves and the Empire.

It's not about gameplay, GW is the group allegedly is saying this. They consider Brets a gateway faction to warhammer for fans of other Total Wars because Brets are, for the most part, conventional.

It's really interesting to follow the change in GW. It's like they rooted out all the garbage managers in the company and are now trying to actually do something with the goldmine of a property they've been sitting on for decades.

They even made an animated cinematic for the new editions of battle sisters and stuff:

Greenskins are fun as long as they're not up against a missile heavy army. Which is lovely when several of the top tier late game factions are missile heavy.

Getting into melee with Greenskins is a bad move unless you want your head split by a Blorc, mobbed by Grom's super gobbos or stabbed to bits and poisoned by Skarsnik night gobbos.

But they really need a way to counter missile spam. So far the only option they have is artillery with the range scrap upgrade.

Have a couple units of cav that weave in and out of range or do fake charges to make the enemy ranged move back as your line makes the final approach, if their missiles clump up just give em the foot, or make the AI freak out by having a couple of night gobbos show up on a flank. I find that most factions have the tools to juke the AI into not concentrating firepower.

Seaguard stacks and empire armies with 6+ Helstroms notwithstanding, then it's either ambush or cry.

The previous CEO, Tom Kirby, was a moron. It's honestly amazing Games Workshop survived under him.

After Kevin Rountree took over as CEO in 2015, Kirby stayed on as an advisor / consultant for about a year. And it seems like Rountree did the exact opposite of whatever advice Kirby must have been giving. Quick question:

I am at like turn 80 of my Skarsnik campaign and doing really well. The only faction as powerful as myself, or slightly more so, was Grimgor who was gobbling up the Badlands till he suddenly got destroyed and all his holdings turned into 'greenskin rebels'. This is Clan Eshin fuckery, right?

Also, regarding the expansion questline (occupy 4, 8, 12, etc. settlements), what the heck are the optional objectives? I have put over 250 hours into this game and I still don't know.

The optional objectives can be seen on your objectives panel, it's one of the buttons in the bottom right. I forget the exact layout but if you click around for a minute you'll find them. They change according to your chapter.
