He could probably teach Canucks management and coaching a thing or two.

I've come around to the idea that Myers is a baby giraffe that somehow keeps wandering in to the arena. His play makes way more sense under this assumption than just about any other.

The athletics running line of him being chaos agent or whatever is pretty apt. Problem is you don’t really want chaos when you just want to close a game out. I think the real problem is the number of players who just don’t bring anything, I think half the Canucks would be in the bottom 10% of guys you’d want to have a break away or a 2 on 1 with, complete black holes of offence (that mostly aren’t that great at defence..)

The inability to turn any of the fringe players into contributors is really hurting now. There’s a fair chance that the player Seattle get from the Canucks could be in the worst couple of players that make up their roster. Right now would Seattle take Gaudette? Jake? Myers? Juolevi? Suggested that they could use a protected spot on Kole Lind, currently in the AHL.. that’s not a great sign.

Other than the guys who barely need coaching, what is the Canucks developmental success? Tyler Motte? A PK specialist. Feels that the only players exceeding expectations developed out of reach of the team. All just seems a bit poo poo.

I really hope the silver lining here is being out early enough to logistically sell a few expiring contracts, and hope that the 3-5 rounders you might get for Pearson or Sutter have a better chance of getting lucky given how hard it would be to scout right now. Or Benning being fired, but I’ll believe that when I see it.

A bit part of their development problems is that they haven't bothered to develop anyone. Other than sure things in Pettersson, Boeser and Hughes they've plugged the rest of the lineup with expensive vets.

They could've spent the last four years teaching Jake to be an effective penalty killer as it became mightily apparent he wasn't going to make it in the top six but they signed Brandon Sutter, Tim Schaller and then Antoine Roussel/Jay Beagle to take over the PK duties. So Virtnanen got relegated to spot duty on the 4th line and was told he was useless if he didn't immediately score a bunch of goals in the top six.

It's the same story with a host of others. Juolevi sat in the minors for five years struggling to be a powerplay guy because they decided he couldn't learn to penalty kill. Gaudette cannot be taught to be a middle six winger, he must be a centre and it's his fault he can't handle the defensive pressure so Sutter will get his minutes. You'll see the same in a few years after they keep forcing Hoglander to be a scorer when it's probably better to start teaching him to penalty kill and check now. But apparently it's more important that JT Miller do that in a lost season.

It's like how every single one of our promising youngsters has struggled in their sophomore season because management tells them to gain 20 lbs of muscle over the summer rather than accepting a guy can had success at a certain weight. They don't learn and when a kid doesn't figure out how to fit the imagined role that management has for them straight away, they sign some 29 year old to a five year deal to do it instead.

It's infuriating and so obviously not what the team should be building. It harkens back to the basic idea of a rebuild. Pick a season a few years down the line, today doesn't matter. Do everything to make that team the best it can be. Get players who will be starting to peak then and ensure they have the training and confidence to succeed. The Canucks keep trying to fix the problems of today to the detriment of the future which means that the team isn't succeeding a few years down the line it's fixing the problems it created by attempting to fix the problems of yesteryear.

What a bad team.

This sportsnet interview with Babcock is stomach turning, why the gently caress is every media outlet trying so hard to get him back in the NHL

“I had asked Marner to rank the effort levels of his teammates on a sheet of paper, and later Bozie walked in my office and happened to see it and told everyone. Not on me”

I wouldn't say Carolina has played terribly this game, but Tampa has absolutely been inside their heads for the past four-and-a-half-ish periods. Hopefully they survive the next one with minimal injuries and go back to easier pickings.
