i don't know what it is about tatsuki fujimoto, but first i shotgunned the entirety of firepunch in one sitting, and later all of the available chainsaw man in another single sitting i don't know what it is, because i wouldn't necessarily describe them as enjoyable, but they are inexplicably compelling

Fire Punch had Togata and super good paneling for both action (which is done very well/clearly at the human scale FP is on) and comedy Chainsaw Man had a much wider cast to work with and kept the comedy, though i feel like the action sometimes waxed and waned in quality. having a bunch of surreal/horror creatures fighting did allow for wild setpieces well beyond what FP did. like you can have Agni wasting a mech suit in a spread but it's not really on the level of the Gun Devil appearing or going to Hell.

See with me I didn't really dig the action in Chainsaw Man because I found a lot of it hard to visually parse, to the point where I often struggled to determine precisely who was attacking or how in any given page, whereas the character work had kernels of stuff I thought was interesting but was largely too breathlessly paced for me to invest in. Plus some of the late twists felt like asspulls to me. IE: So, why does the Metaphysical Embodiment Of The Concept Of "Chainsaw" retroactively erase the very idea of whatever demon it eats from history? I didn't hate it, to be clear, I finished it and didn't feel like I'd just utterly wasted my time or anything, but I didn't get it.

that's 100% my big criticism of CSM's action, you do have stuff that reads clearer like hunters using their contracted devil or someone like Quanxi/Kishibe getting into hand-to-hand. but as the inhuman characters mix in there's less clarity and something like Chainsaw vs other weapon devils is just a mess. i do think stuff like the questions about Chainsaw's origins and abilities are definitely material for the future parts, whenever they start.

The sad part of Sac_2045 is that it’s actually really good with its story (after the first couple eps). The animation is just downright garbage though. I wish Ex-Arm causes a wave of companies to reconsider 3DCG but while I’m wishing I’ll have a million dollars please.

Ex-Arm's lesson is less that 3DCG is inherently bad and more that if you're making an anime, maybe have some people who know how to make anime make it.
