The only game genres that would be more ridiculous to call 'souls-like' would be the ones without combat. Just like, why? Because you can dodge?

That's actually tagged Souls-Like on Steam. Is that just gamers being dumb or is there something I'm not seeing?

Steam tags are player-assigned unless the publisher feels like applying a few specific ones on the store page themselves. There's basically nothing that guarantees that a game will actually remotely fit all the tags it has. Wouldn't surprise me if some genius thought "this is hard, therefore soulslike."

Roguelike means there's a dungeon. Roguelite means there's a town. Metroidvania means there's doors. I'm currently waiting on the souls-like, metroidvania, action-adventure, hack and slash Foregone. It comes out on Monday. Don't know much about it other than it's done a round on consoles, and it looks gorgeous. Slick colours and animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR_SDyAkUzE https://store.steampowered.com/app/1000760/Foregone/ Release update: Goon impressions aren't too hot on this one. Fat Samurai posted:I have philosophical problems with a cyberpunk citybuilder. On the one hand, it's a god game, on the other hand, government is supposed to be powerless in this setting. Also, city builders usually require to give your citizens a modicum of comfort, while cyberpunk usually treats the downtrodden masses like poo poo. I'm curious about how the game handles those contradictions. I haven't played the game so I don't know if it'd eve fit in the way actions are designed & presented, but reading this made me Ideas Guy it and think it'd be a neat piece of world building if they had some kind of reactive ticker that showed a chain of activity undertaken by the mega-corporations that lead to whatever action you choose going into effect. Like, you're more like The Invisible Hand moving the market, & not the normal all powerful city planner.

I haven't looked at it, but "cyberpunk citybuilder" seems like a perfectly workable idea. Cyberpunk has always been about the contrast between a highly surveilled, tightly controlled society and the human vermin that live in the crawlspaces of this perfect immortal machine. A citybuilder would just be flipping the perspective so now you're the one deciding to sacrifice the Sector 7 plate to kill off some pests getting in the way of the city you're building. If anything, a cyberpunk citybuilder seems more appropriate than a modern or pre-modern one.

I played the demo a while ago. It did give me some mixed Dark Messiah / Thief vibes. Managed to sequence break and the game didn't softlock, so that's a plus.

I snapped this up because I remember playing a demo back in the day. It's very Rhythm Heaven, kind of feels like they expanded a single game from that into a full game. Really really fun!

Heads up, if you bought Sinking City from Steam you basically bought the pirated version: https://twitter.com/thesinkingcity/status/1366483130278961159 https://frogwares.com/how-nacon-cracked-and-pirated-the-sinking-city/ quote:Nacon pirated the “Deluxe” version of the game. This version features content that was developed after the original release of The Sinking City by Frogwares. Nacon didn’t pay for this content or even tried to discuss it with us. Nacon is therefore stealing additional content of our game that is outside the contract we had with them.
